NEWS - Rekord-Hochwasser in Venedig
Flooding on the streets of Venice, Italy. 13/11/19. Venice was in the grip of 'apocalyptic destruction' today after the second-highest tide in the city's history flooded its historic basilica, brought misery to tourists and left many of its squares and alleyways deep underwater. St Mark's Square was submerged by more than three feet of water - so deep that one man even swam across it - while the adjacent St Mark's Basilica was flooded for just the sixth time in 1,200 years. Mayor Luigi Brugnaro has declared a disaster zone and warned of severe damage to the city and the church. Venice officials said the tide peaked at 6.14ft at 10.50pm, just short of the record 6.4ft set in 1966. *** Local Caption *** 30419170
