NEWS - Deutschland: 'Klimaschutz jetzt' Demo in Köln
December 1, 2018 - Cologne, Germany - December 1st, Cologne. In December the climate is discussed twice: at the World Climate Summit in Poland, and in the coal commission in Berlin. On the 1st of December in Cologne, at the gates of the largest lignite mining area in Europe, thousands of people gathered to ask the Implementing the Paris Climate Agreement: tightening climate targets and providing fair support to poor and most affected countries in the fight against climate change. Switching off half of the coal-fired power station capacities in Germany, and so fast that the federal government’s climate target for 2020 is still reached. A timetable for a fast coal exit that meets the Paris Climate Agreement and National Climate Targets. The immediate stop of all plans for new coal-fired power plants, open-pit mines, and expansions. Targeted support of employees and a social-ecological structural change process in the affected coal regions (FOTO: DUKAS/ZUMA)
