'Sliding door': Ernie Owusu who questioned Margaret Thatcher as boy says it changed his life's path
Ernest Owusu says encounter with Iron Lady on TV in 1980 gave him confidence to ascend class ladder.
Ernest Owusu was 13 in 1980 when he was given the opportunity to appear in the audience of the BBC show In the Limelight, presented by Lesley Judd, and asked Thatcher how she felt about the Russians calling her the Iron Lady.
Now 57, Owusu looks remarkably similar even with a greying beard. But his status in life has transformed. The father-of-three is the human resources director at a pharmaceutical company, a homeowner in leafy West Wickham and the first black captain of the Addington golf club in its 110-year history.

Ireland reacts to Thatcher death
4/10/2013 - BELFAST, , : On a wall in Twinbrook west Belfast, a black and white mural of Bobby Sands and the Hunger Strikers is seen clearly without any mention or graffiti to the death of the former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher. Sands a volunteer of the Provisional Irish Republican Army and member of the British Parliament who died on hunger strike while imprisoned in HM Prison Maze on the 5th of May 1981. Margaret Thatcher, then prime minister, had said: "How can I talk to them [the prisoners] when they have no support, no mandate?" Yet when Bobby Sands was elected by the people of Fermanagh and South Tyrone, with more votes than Thatcher in Finchley, she became even more intransigent. She refused to negotiate and changed the law to prevent any other prisoner standing for election. Margaret Thatcher passed away on April 8, 2013. Britain stood deeply divided over the legacy of former prime minister Margaret Thatcher as it made preparations for the grand funeral next week of the woman known around the globe as the 'Iron Lady', Belfast, Great Britain, 9th April, 2013.
