Plans have been announced for the world’s biggest Ferris wheel without spokes.
Called the Seoul Ring , it will be built in the Korean capital of Seoul and be 180m metres high.
It will break away from the traditional design of spoked Ferris wheels and use innovative technology to create the aesthetically advanced spokeless design.
Early renderings show traditional ferris wheel pods with 360 degree floor to ceiling windows on a track inside a transparent circular tube.
It will have 36 carriages with a capacity of up to 25 passengers each with an expected 12,000 passengers each day.
Currently, the world’s largest spokeless Ferris wheel 145 metres and is located in China’s Shandong province.
The tallest spoked Ferris wheel is the the 260-metre Ain Dubai in the United Arab Emirates which opened in October 2021.
Work on the Seoul Ring is due to begin in 2025 and open in 2027 as a symbol of the circular economy and climate action for both people and nature.
The projected overall cost of the structure, on a 20,000-square-meter lot, is $411 million USD.
