Park Grutas, aka 'Stalin World', Lithuania - 04 Jun 2013

Stalin World: The Strangest Theme Park In The World?
Welcome to Stalin World.
Tourists are seen touring the statues in Park Grutas - known colloquially as "Stalin World" - in the south of Lithuania.
The park features statues and other relics of the Russian occupation of the country that, according to the park, lays bare "the naked Soviet ideology which suppressed and hurt the spirit of our nation for many decades".
After Lithuania regained its independence in 1990 dozens of Soviet statues were taken down and dumped.
Local entrepreneur Viliumas Malinauskas peitioned the Lithuanian authorities to grant him the possession of these sculptures so that he could build a privately financed museum.
His aim was a controversial one but, despite fierce opposition from some, Park Grutas opened in 2001.
Since then it has faced a number legal difficulties, including a challenge from seven of the sculptors who claimed rights to 6% of the park's profits.
Viliamus called the claim "absurd" and later dumped the artists' sculptures outside the park, inviting the group to come and collect them.
Alongside the sculptures Park Grutas also boasts a Soviet-era playground, a restaurant serving Soviet-era dishes and a zoo.

Volunteers during the swan round up
The biggest swan round up in the UK
The biggest swan round up in the UK has just taken place early this morning(sat) at the Fleet nature Reserve in Dorset. (collective noun: a lamentation of swans or herd).
Some 500 wild swans were corralled and slowly driven to a landing point at The Abbotsbury Swannery at the end of the waterway that lies just inside Chesil Beach on the Jurassic coast. Hundreds of volunteers of all ages walked to nearly waist deep in order to help keep the swans moving in the right direction.
The giant birds at this time of year are mainly flightless due to them moulting their feathers so they can be very carefully encouraged up the shallow tidal water to a place where a team of handlers can examine, weigh and ring the birds.

Baby elephant Mali enjoys a swim, Melbourne Zoo, Australia - 31 Jan 2011
Mandatory Credit: Photo by James D. Morgan / Rex Features ( 1277299f )
Young Elephant Packs Her Trunks For Swimming Lesson
A baby elephant needed her trunks today as she enjoyed her first ever swimming lesson.
Mali, Melbourne Zoo's first-ever Asian Elephant calf, was born on 16th January 2010.
Last year the super cute youngster had to content herself with splashing around in 700 mm-deep 'paddling pool' to keep cool in the Australian summer the heat.
But now that she's a very big girl the excited youngster was able to dip her toes and trunk into the deepest pool on offer for elephants at the zoo.
Keepers were alongside Mali to ensure that her first dip into the deep didn't frighten her.
Meanwhile mother Dokkoon and herd matriarch Mek Kapah also kept a close eye on proceedings.
However, they needn't have worried as Mali clearly decided that swimming is a marvellous pastime.
Elephant Department Supervisor Dave McKelson and Elephant Keeper Gary Hampson went into the pool with Mali, and after a while Dokkoon joined them too.
Whileshe seemed a little hesitant at first, fun loving calf Mali soon took the plunge.
And once she had found her water legs there was no stopping her as she elephant paddled round the pool.
Just like any mischievous toddler she also took great delight in splashing and playing with her keepers.
Dave said: "Mali did really well She was a little bit anxious about going into the deeper water, but even in that short session she was gaining confidence.
"She went in to a depth of more than two metres, so she was well and truly underwater and didn't seem to mind".
Mali is Australia's first female Asian Elephant and the first calf born via artificial insemination anywhere in the country.
Her historic birth marked a major milestone in the conservation breeding program for her endangered species.
