A Man In A Van Captures Amazing Night Sky Photos
These stunning images were taken by a photographer who bought an old motorhome and travelled along the coast of Portugal.
To document his journey, each night before retiring to bed Alessandro Puccinelli would walk a distance from his campsite and photograph his motorhome against the phenomenal backdrop of the sea and night sky.
The series is called A Van in the Sea.
Alessandro, 44, from Pisa in Italy, captures his different pit stops at the edge of the sea where his van acts like a lighthouse in the middle of the night and the stars.
The Italian photographer bought the van and moved it to Portugal, where he has an idyllic life of surfing and photography.
His photo project, which was created during the past four months, has been taken in South Portugal, mostly in a region along the coast called Alentejo.
Alessandro says: "Here is a small series of photographs I took before I went to sleep. I decided to photograph not just the ocean but also to take some images of the van against the night sky.
"I like being beside the sea because I'm a surfer. Surf changed my life, since I discovered it at the age of 16.
"Year after year the ocean became an idealisation of some principles of a great and courageous life, like 'simplicity, elegance, power and freedom'.
"Its presence in my daily life became a balancing factor that helps me reconnect with that internal equilibrium, which, as a human being, I too easily lose.

July 26, 2013 - Entradas, Portugal: Dinis Caeiro, a member of the Forcados of Evora, leaves the arena after a successful face catch. When the pega is done at the first attempt and with style, the forcado goes around the arena to receive applause and flowers from the public. The forcados, Portuguese-style bullfighters, are eight men who challenge the bull directly, without protection or weapon. They form a line facing the bull and the caras (front man) eggs the bull on by "playing" with it and taking steps forward provoking him into a charge to perform a pega de cara (face catch), and once the bull runs forward the first forcado times his jump onto the bull's head and holds onto it, usually around its neck. Then, six forcados jump upon the bull piling upon themselves and grabbing the bull while one forcado grabs the bull by its tail. The objective is to subdue the bull. The forcado who grabbed the bull by the tail (rabejador) is the last one to release the bull after it is subdued. Bull's horns are covered with a protection of leather to prevent it from injuring forcados. The bull is not killed in the arena and, at the end of the corrida, it is led back to its pen, then is usually killed, away from the audience, by a professional butcher. Some bulls, after an exceptional performance, are released to pasture for breeding. Forcados were usually people from lower classes who, to this day, practice their art through amateur associations.
