REPORTAGE - Ukraine: Alltag im Donbass
For 4 years, Svetlana went back and forth in her cellar, sometimes with her whole family, sometimes even with her neighbours. The first shots of the war landed on her neighbour's house, she had nowhere to hide, no shelter. So they came to hide in Svetlana's basement. Sometimes a few hours, sometimes a lot more... they would sit there! 'We barely noticed that it was happening again and we were going down again. My grandson would ask me: why? Why are they doing this to us? What have we done? But I could never find an answer for him. I had no answer and how to calm a child without an answer? now, after 5 years of war, he no longer asks.
On the stairs leading down to the cellar, a huge piece of wall lies on the ground. You can see the sky outside through the foundation of the house. A heavy shell landed there 2 years ago, since then, the whole cellar has been oozing, the water is flush with the walls and ceiling, the foundations of the house are slowly collapsing on themselves. Svetlana would like to repair but 'I don't know when the war will end and repair everything so that everything can be destroyed afterwards, again? We wait until the end of the war to repair the houses and start a new life.
Mon petit-fils me demandait : pourquoi ?

World's first stair lift for overweight dogs - Mar 2012

The world's first stair lift for overweight dogs
World's First Stair Lift for Overweight Dogs
A warning about obesity in dogs has seen the design of the world's first dog stairlift.
According to a shock report, one in three dogs of the 8.3 million canines in the United Kingdom are now obese.
So a device that can transport portly pooches up stairs has been unveiled.
Based on a conventional stair lift, the 'Stair of the Dog 2022' concept has been in development for six months and has a number of high tech modifications that make it dog friendly.
As well as a comfy basket for pets to sit in during the stair elevation stage, it features an electronic retractable platform - activated by a paw recognition button - to take said dog from floor to basket level.
The prototype has been created by MORE TH>N pet insurance, who warn that if obesity levels continue to rise at the current rate, over half of all pooches will be severely overweight (52 per cent) by 2022.
This will leave them unable to carry out basic tasks, like climbing a set of stairs, without putting serious pressure on their hearts.
Commenting on the prototype, John Ellenger, Head of MORE TH>N Pet Insurance, said: "It's extremely worrying to think that 52 per cent of all dogs in the UK could be obese in 10 years time. At the moment we take it for granted that our dogs can retrieve balls and climb a set of stairs without putting their health at risk but this might not always be the case.
"We're undoubtedly a nation of dog lovers, but time and again we see people sharing their love in an unhealthy way, mostly through feeding their dogs inappropriate and fat-laden foods. A stair lift for dogs is a vision of the future we really don't want to see become a reality".
TV vet Joe Inglis said, "The stair lift for dogs is an innovative product but ultimately it's a ...

palace on the meir
Antwerp : 17/05/2010
'Paleis op de Meir' is situated in the middle of the beating heart of Antwerp. J.A. van Susteren, a rich merchant, built this impressive city palace with a rococo style facade. In the 19th and 20th centuries the building was owned by Napoleon, King Willem of Netherlands and the Belgian Royal Family. The different owners have made considerable renovation and tranformation.

Allister Heath, editor of The Business magazine. Heath argues that Britain is slowly "gaining a magazine culture, while it loses a newspaper one", which is why he intends to turn the Business - with just nine full-time editorial staff - into a British version of US magazines like Business Week, Forbes and Fortune.
