A touch of colour and pageantry in the midst of the Nation's mourning, was observed throughout London, and cities and towns in Britain, Commonwealth and the Empire, the proclamation of Elizabeth as Queen was read in London by officers of the Royal College of Arms. Four proclamations were read, first, the parchment scroll was read from the balcony of St James Palace by Sir George Bellew Garter King of Arms. Then at Charing Cross by the Lan caster Herald Mr A.G.B. Russell, at Temple Bar by Sir Gerald Wollaston, Norroy and Ulster King of Arms, and finally at the Royal exchange by Clarenceaux King of Arms, Sir Arthur Cochrane.
