Sarah Ferguson and her daughters Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie were seen landing at Aberdeen Airport this weekend before continuing their journey on to Balmoral. It is thought that this is the first time the Duchess of York has been invited to stay at the main Balmoral castle by the Queen since her marriage to Prince Andrew ended in 1996. Despite their split, Sarah and Prince Andrew have remained on good terms, and even continued living together, for the sake of their daughters. Fergie's Balmoral invitation came just days after Princess Beatrice celebrated her 25th birthday.

    Sarah Ferguson Duchess of York
Royals at Aberdeen Airport, Scotland, Britain - 09 Aug 2013

Rare 'Rainbow' Cloud Spotted Above Aberdeen
Nacreous cloud, An amateur astronomer has captured these rare mother-of-pearl coloured clouds over Scotland.

The stunning pink formations, known as nacreous clouds, shimmer with the pale pink colours you would find in a seashell.

They are caused by extreme weather conditions and very rarely seen in Britain. Graeme Whipps, 49, was stunned when he saw the pearlescent clouds in Chapel of Garioch, near Aberdeen in Northern Scotland.

He says: "I have observed hundreds of aurora above Scotland, but this is the first time in 25 years I've seen these beautiful pearlescent clouds.

"The colours were really striking and easily outshone everything else in the sky."

Nacreous clouds form in the stratosphere between 10 and 30 miles up and are made up of miniscule ice crystals forming at minus 85 degrees Celsius.

The iridescent colours are due to the ice crystals being of a uniform shape and size and the cloud covering being thin.

Scientists believe the clouds also help accelerate the process of the depletion of the ozone layer.

The clouds provide a surface for the chlorine and bromine in CFC's to react into an active form, which makes the chlorine more destructive to the ozone layer.
