11th August 2016 - Rio Olympics, Brazil - GBs Katherine Grainger and Victoria Thornley win silver in the womens rowing. Katherine Grainger has become the most decorated female British Olympian ever, winning women's double sculls silver with Vicky Thornley at Rio 2016. On a stunning morning at the Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas, the 40-year-old wrote her name into the record books by winning a fifth medal to move ahead of swimmer Rebecca Adlington. Grainger was only just unable to retain the gold won with Anna Watkins at London 2012, but securing silver with Thornley at the age of 40 is a remarkable feat. It is another silver for Grainger having also finished second at Sydney 2000, Athens 2004 and Beijing 2008.

Construction work was continuing today at the Copacabana beach volleyball stadium, at the Lagoa Stadium, which is hosting the rowing and canoeing competitions, and at the Future Arena, where the handball will take place. Teams were practising on volleyball courts surrounded by dozens of workers. Scaffolders could be seen working on the main structure of the beach-front site while poles lay along spectator corridors and work was continuing on the media commentary boxes. Workers were also finishing pavements outside the venue where the first matches are to be held on Saturday. Lagoa Stadium remained partially shrouded in scaffolding, with officials blaming the delays on problems with suppliers.

OLYMPIA 2016 - Impressionen aus Rio de Janeiro
1st August 2016, Rio Brazil. Beach volleyball still under construction at the Copacabana beach.
