Olympic Missiles To Be Installed On London Flats
Missile batteries will be placed on the roof of upmarket residential flats in London as part of planned defences for the upcoming Olympics.

The high-velocity-missiles will be placed on the flat roof of a converted former factory near to the Olympic stadium that is now home to upmarket flats.

The missiles, which travel three times faster than the speed of sound, are part of a network of defences that would be used in the event of an airborne attack on the Olympic venue.

They will be tested this week as part of the military's six- day trial of its ground-based air defence systems ahead of the Games

The building where the missiles will be installed forms part of a Grade II-listed gated redevelopment of the former Bryant and May match factory.

During the Olympics, security measures will also see typhoon jets and helicopters patrol the skies.

Meanwhile, a 23,000-strong force of security guards, including soldiers, will be on duty alongside 12,000 police officers.
