A Greenpeace expert examines the estuary of a river flowing into the Pacific Ocean through the Khalaktyrsky beach. The ecologists have taken samples of dead shellfish found at the bottom as well as water and soil for further analysis in Moscow. Earlier, the Hydrometeorological Service detected an excessive content of phenol and petroleum products in the coastal zone near the Khalaktyrsky Beach, with local residents reporting a mass stranding of marine animals.
