un matériau en caoutchouc siliconé utilisé à Hollywood pour fabriquer des prothèses pour les acteurs pourrait contribuer à réduire les infections.
Picture MUST credit: Majed Othman Althumayri / /Texas A&M University A silicon rubber material used in Hollywood to make prosthetics for actors could help reduce infections, a new study has shown. Researchers created realistic replica skin made from the material, called Ecoflex. The study found that this skin can be engineered to mimic actual skin textures and elasticity, simulating the conditions where bacteria grow and adhere. And it can potentially serve as a platform to evaluate risks of bacterial infections from intravenous catheters and test wearable sensors, among other biomedical applications. Each year in the US alone there are around 80,000 catheter-related bloodstream infections in intensive care units underscoring its public health significance. A team from Texas A&M University in the USA used Ecoflex 00-35, a fast-curing, biocompatible rubber used for various applications, including prosthetics for special effects. Picture supplied by JLPPA
