Dogs perform balancing act in street, Huaibei, Anhui province, China - Feb 2010
A pet pooch in China has worked out how to be a real top dog. Passers-by in Huaibei, China, stopped in amazement when they saw the small dog parading through the streets sitting on a small folding chair that was balanced on a second larger dog's head. Looking like a miniature Chinese emperor of old, the smaller dog lay comfortably as the other carried its weight around. The pair caused quite a stir with people stopping to take their pictures. According to their owner the small dog is "so lazy that it does not even want to walk".

Design cities that changed the world from Milan to Tokyo exhibition,Design Museum, London, Britain - 04 Sep 2008
DESIGNS THAT CHANGED THE WORLD
The Design Museum in London is currently hosting 'Design Cities: 8 Moments that Changed the World', an exhibition on the planning and development of cities.
The exhibition identifies particular periods that shifted the direction of design, including: the Great Exhibition in London (1851); Le Corbusier in Paris (1936); and the creative explosion in Tokyo (1987).
It finishes off in present-day London, which is once again the world's leading city for design and is home to top designers like Ron Arad, Ross Lovegrove and Jasper Morrison.
Through the use of a wide range of objects, from textiles and fashion to industrial pieces, furniture and prints, the exhibition tells the story of contemporary design through seven key cities - London, Vienna, Dessau, Paris, Los Angeles, Milan and Tokyo - at their creative height.
It includes designs from the like of William Morris, Christopher Dresser, Ron Arad, Adolf Loos, Josef Hoffman and Le Corbusier.
One of the more unusual items on display in the exhibition is a wooden prototype car that was created by Le Corbusier in 1929. Le Corbusier created the model for a competition organised by the French car industry, the aim of which was to design a low cost car suitable for mass production. His efforts to persuade FIAT to manufacture his design were unsuccessful but the general form prefigures Pierre Boulanger, one of France's greatest car designers.
Leaping forward 60 years and we have the Nissan S-Cargo (1989). Japanese ca...

Brompton World championships training, Blenheim Palace, Oxfordshire, Britain - 05 Aug 2008
The Brompton World championships are a cycle race in which all the competitors race on Brompton folding city bicycles and are dressed in city suits. Up to 1,000 competitors are expected to line up for a nine-mile sprint around the historic grounds of Blenheim Palace for the first British Brompton race. The first two races were held by Spanish enthusiasts in Barcelona. As well as the dress code rule, which insists on a jacket, shirt and tie, the race will have a Le Mans-style start - competitors first have to sprint to their bikes and unfold them before they can start pedalling. There will be prizes for the fastest male, female and youngest rider, as well as the best-dressed. The race will take place during Bike Blenheim Palace, an action-packed day of cycling which kicks off with a 20km time trial and is followed by an elite cycling race organised by British Cycling.

Like many women newly out of a relationship it would seem that Chantelle Houghton is entering a period of reinvention. The Paris Hilton look-a-like turned herself from a fake celebrity into a real one after a stint on Big Brother; a whirlwind romance and marriage to fellow contestant Samuel Preston, of Ordinary Boys fame, soon followed. However, following the breakdown of her marriage and subsequent divorce earlier this month Chantelle has obviously decided to wash that man right out of her hair with a few changes. First of all she had her modest 32B breasts boosted to a 32DD. Now it would seem that the model come TV personality come party girl is looking for a little healthy living by investing in a nifty folding bicycle. Judging by these pictures of the 24-year-old happily trying out her new purchase it won't be long before we see her hitting the streets of Essex for a little exercise

Voltitude folding electric bicycle, Switzerland - Mar 2011
FULL WORDS: http://www.rexfeatures.com/nanolink/9fel
No, it's not a giant Swiss Army Knife, this is the fastest folding electric bike in the world.
The Volitude can be closed in one second using just one hand say the Geneva-based designers. They claim the SafeFold system is five times quicker than the closest competitor.
It has been designed for city dwellers and commuters wanting a compact bike that wouldn't have to be left on the street where it could be stolen.
Voltitude founder Eric Collombin explains: "The real question is "who wants to leave an expensive electric bicycle in the street?". No one does because it is so easy to steal; the whole bike or just parts of it."

The umbrella was commissioned by Italy’s leading ice-cream and frozen-desserts brand, Sammontana. It invited international design and innovation firm CRA-Carlo Ratti Associati and architect Italo Rota to develop a project that puts forward a more sustainable vision for the beach resorts of tomorrow. The folding photovoltaic array was designed in collaboration with US professor Chuck Hoberman who specialises in “transformable design”.It was inspired by aerospace technologies to generate power, which is then used for refrigeration and cooling. The first prototypes of the beach umbrella will be showcased in of Milan, Italy, from June 12th.

A beach umbrella that uses the sun’s energy to keep a mini-fridge of food and drink cool, is hoping to make summer in the sun more comfortable. The parasol has foldable photovoltaic solar panels to generate electricity for refrigeration and cooling.

A humanoid robot has shown off how it could be useful around the home — by neatly folding a pile of freshly washed towels.
The US company behind the artificial intelligence powered Figure 02 wanted to show how dextrous the machine is.
It is being developed to help tackle a labour shortage by doing more menial factory and warehouse tasks.
Maker Figure AI says the bot is the “ highest performing humanoid on the market.“
It is said to be the result of a ground-up hardware and software redesign in just 10 months following the unveiling of predecessors Figure 01.
The 167 cm tall bot is capable of speech-to-speech conversation with humans through onboard mics and speakers connected to custom AI models trained in partnership with OpenAI.?
There is also an onboard vision language model that is said to enable “fast common-sense visual reasoning” from robot cameras.
The towel folding exercise showed off its human-scale hands equipped with 16 degrees of freedom.?? An engineer is seen dumping a pile of towels on a table and asks Figure to fold them for him.
The robot gives him the thumbs up and replies:” Sure thing, I’ll get right on that.”
It then proceeded to sort them one by one, lay them out flat and then fold them first in half longways then doubles them over before putting them into a basket.
