    Anita:
lockdown has been strange for us as we've both been away from our families for months now but we're grateful to have had each other around. In between working from home we've spent our time cooking and going for runs. We're also grateful that everyone in our family has managed to avoid the virus and can't wait to be reunited with them - hopefully sometime soon!

Deborah: In addition to longer hours, learning new ways of working and guiding our clients through a whole range of new and unfamiliar processes, I have felt the sadness of not hearing peopleÕs stories. Everyone has a story that should be told and one of the privileges of my job is sitting with their family or friends and listening to the story over a cup of tea. The lack of face to face meetings with our families has made it difficult to convey the empathy that we feel for their situation.

Michael at home during Lockdown, Muswell Hill , London

    From: Michael Egan

Depends on what you think. Not too bad compared to others tbh. I work in a school. Pretty sure I had the virus early on.

In terms of my day to day life. The main issue is by being able to hug my partner. She lives the next street over from and I stop by outside her house to have a social distance chat and sometimes pick up some bread she’d made.

Professionally it’s difficult. I work as a cover supervisor which means I do the supply at the school. Miss the kids terribly and worry about them all the time. Quite an active school so when I’m not doing my shifts in the school itself, I’m at home doing courses, finding resources for class teachers and mankind quick quizzes for the kids to do. When I work in the school every two weeks social distancing is impossible as the kids just want to play and such. Favourite time of the lockdown is going in and actually getting to teach and engage with the kids. So many are of need and I feel physically ill with worry about how they’re going to be affected after such a long absence from both academic and pastoral support.

Otherwise I’m well. Live with 4 other people and I get on well with all of them. Very eclectic collection of people but it works.

With the line thinning for the girls between the real world and their Minecraft worlds, we have seeked solace in the beauty of Queens Wood. It has been great connecting with nature. The woods have been a natural oasis to escape the confines of our flat, during lockdown.

Tim at home during Lockdown, Muswell Hill , London

Short version: “Tim has been working at home since early March. He is grateful to still have a job, and a garden. But the start of lockdown coincided with his job getting incredibly busy – very long days, and sometimes weekends – and he finds it very difficult to switch off with the rest of his life taken away – no gym, no theatre, no concerts, no drinks and meals with friends”.

Long version: “Tim is, by day, a project manager for a telecoms technology company, and by night a guitarist, and a lover of music, theatre, and good food and wine. He started working from home a couple of weeks before lockdown began, and around the same time, his job got extremely busy – relentlessly long hard days, including a number of weekends. The busyness has helped the time pass more quickly than it might, but the absence of the things that usually counterbalance his life – rehearsals, gigs, meals and drinks with friends, and so on – have made it very difficult for him to switch off at the end of the ‘working day’ – with the result that he is even more exhausted than he might have been, and, at times, desperately lonely. He knew four people who have now, sadly, died of the virus.”

Laura 32 and Jesse 7 at home in East Finchely north london during lockdown

"I am Laura, 32 years old, a single parent living in East Finchley. I am in love with the natural world and all it is doing for me and all I can offer it at this time. Despite the tragedy of this time, I have gained so much from having regular, quality time with both my son, Jesse, who is 7 and the plants and vegetables I help to grow. I have dropped down to a slower pace and I am better able to nurture from this place. I am teaching maths to my school aged students and running Montessori classes online for my toddler class. I miss physical interaction with my pupils - I love to teach in a way that ignite the senses, not just sight and sound. I am surrendering to the almost inevitable fact that much of the business I have built, including a beautiful premises in East Finchley, high street will not withstand the lockdown time and changes. I allow space to open up to find out what may in store for the future. In the meantime, I am happy watering and feeding my son and seedlings."

I recently retired as a Unitarian minister, and am still involved with ministry in the London area (via phone and video-links).
This is our family home in North London, which I share with my wife Jane. Materially we have been managing OK during the Lockdown.
But we miss our family very much, especially our four young grandchildren. We have put teddy bears in the window to await their return.

Emily and baby Flo (6 weeks) at home in Muswell Hill London during Lockdown

Flo was born at the peak of Lockdown, with childcare plans scuppered for her two other children. Emily initially entered the hospital alone without her husband. She was greeted by a select group of masked Midwife’s.
When Flo arrived, she was a blossom of hope and happiness for the whole family, who are still desperate to hold and welcome her officially into the family.

Kate & Ivor at home during Lockdown in Friern Barnet North London

Kate (75), a retired consultant clinical psychologist, and Ivor (78), a retired biomedical scientist, have lived in this house since 1971. Because they are retired, they are used to spending much of their time in and around the house. Kate is a keen gardener and Ivor is refurbishing an old computer and repairing an amplifier. They both read widely, watch TV, listen to music and take a daily walk and exercise. However, lock-down has severely cut down their other activities. A trip to Spain to visit a relative had to be cancelled, as did a holiday in Georgia and Armenia. They have not been able to see friends and relatives, nor go to concerts, plays and exhibitions in town. They are also missing their weekly trip to the Leisure Centre for swimming and gym. Luckily, local musicians have been giving al fresco concerts and neighbours have been very kind and generous.

    Amanda:
I work in TV news at the BBC but I’ve been ill for 9 weeks with coronavirus.. Working from home when I can. Tim’s an actor but things are looking fairly bleak for theatres over the coming months . He’s doing a lot of zoom quizzes . The twins are enjoying the lie-ins and living life at a different pace.. we all rub along together pretty well, doing our own thing then coming together for films or meals. We’re lucky to live on a very special street with neighbours that have become the best of friends. We love the clean air, the birds, not commuting, we miss dinners with friends and family, making holiday plans .

Rosalind at home in Muswell Hill during Lockdown

    Rosalind:
For me, the lockdown has been a relaxation from the pressures and obligations of my normal life - I'm 74 and live alone, but am committed to fund-raising voluntary work of different kinds, so it's been a nice change to be temporarily entirely selfish. It's not a lonely life, as my small front garden means that friends on daily walks sometimes wave through the window and I come out for a suitably-distanced chat, and my neighbour upstairs and I have long chats in the sun, me in my garden and she on her balcony. And I'm in constant touch with my family and partner. Lastly, I'm a convert to internet shopping, it's like Christmas on my doorstep!

Win lives on her own and has dementia,
her carer Ubah comes three times a day for 30 mins at a time

Win’s unaware of lockdown, its been explained, but because of dementia she forgets.

One granddaughter who lives in London and her three children would visit regularly every week before lockdown.

Since Lockdown they have been coming to spend time in the garden. Other grandchildren, phone regularly and keep an eye on her via camera link.

Win spends the majority of her time sleeping and watching tv. Her neighbour pops round or keeps in contact as much as possible, also haloing out when an ambulance would not come out as she’s low priority.

All the neighbours keep an eye on her in our road swell. One leant her CD player and Billy Holidays music. Another neighbour leant her a tv when hers broke and they all sang happy birthday on a Thursday evening before the NHS clap for her 93rd birthday

Tricia with her daughter Phoenix ( 10) and Simon, her Partner
Tricia: The impact that Coronavirus has had on us as a family is primarily because my mum - after a period of rapidly deteriorating health - was taken into a care home in Norfolk about three weeks before lockdown officially began. I spent two crazy weeks trying to get her room set up and homely knowing that this was likely to happen at any moment and was relieved that I had done so as her home decided to lockdown a week before they were advised to.
I haven't seen her for nearly 8 weeks. Earlier this week they learned that they have their first two confirmed cases of COVID. My mum has various significant underlying conditions and she won't survive if she gets it. So now I am waiting and hoping that the outbreak can be contained and that I will be able to see her again as is my 10 year old daughter and partner. It's a tough time. For us along with some many others.

Emily Beecher and her daughter Maisie ( 10 ) at home during Lockdown in Muswell Hill London

    Emily:
My daughter Maisie and I have been in lockdown since March 16 as we had suspected Covid. In the beginning everything was scary - I lost all my work, my project funding was cancelled, all future work postponed indefinitely, Maisie was missing her clubs and the routine of school and seeing friends. Everything felt slippery and unstable. Then I received Arts Council Emergency funding to resurrect my project about motherhood, a musical called The Good Enough Mums Club, and we dug into our home school routine, found Maisie some on-line clubs, and we’ve found our way. Now we’re busier than before but and everything is an almighty juggle and it is equal parts playful, overwhelming, unsure and hopeful.

    Maisie:
Me and my mum have been in lockdown for what feels a year. I constantly miss my friends and my only way of communicating with them is over the phone which is awfully boring and you can’t play with them or anything. As my mum said we’ve been I lockdown a bit longer than some so its hit me slightly slower actually because what was meant to be a few week thing has actually turned into a few months. I suffer from anxiety which has been slightly raised in this poor time. I do my best to stay happy but I struggle sometimes to do that. I have TikTok and I like to make videos to tell people to stay safe! I love my mum and we stay safe and happy together! So what I’m going to say to you guys is stay safe and stay together so we can push through! Bye!

Myself & my partner Ren Harvieu are both musicians and were actually on the road touring together with our close friends singer/songwriters Felix Holt & Robert Chaney & his partner Laura Tenschert just before this lockdown was set in place.
The five of us decided to use this time in a creative way and move in here together at Felix’s home in Muswell Hill. We’ve been writing and recording, making short films and experimenting musically on ideas we’d been conjuring up beforehand.
Felix’s basement has been a real sanctuary for us all in our daily musical explorations and we’ve been trying to use this time productively and positively.

    DeAnna:
At first we were panicked like everyone else. We started social distancing, isolation and working from home 2 weeks before the directive from the government as we wanted to protect our children who are both under 3 years old. We are lucky that the weather has allowed us to spend lots of time in the garden. Although it’s been intense and super frustrating at times, Kelly and I both agree it has brought our family closer together and it’s been great to spend so much time at home with the children.
COVID has changed our lives forever. It will be interesting to see the new normal. Whenever that is.
