Prince Charles and wife Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall paid a visit to the BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir Temple and School in London today. On arrival at the temple the royal couple had a Chandlo dot applied to their foreheads and a traditional red string nada Chadhi tied to their wrists. They then made a private visit to the Central Shrine before dropping in to visit the Swaminarayan School. Here they met with staff and students and were treated to demonstrations of several 'Holi' themed activities. The Hindu festival of Holi celebrates the arrival of spring. On this day people celebrate the changing season and the beauty associated with spring blossoms by spraying each other with colour. Charles and Camilla saw a demonstration of this as children in the playground threw coloured powder and water over each other. Afterwards, the children filed past Charles and Camilla, showering them with flower petals as part of a symbolic gesture.
