UK Carrier Strike Group 2021

Today 14th August 2021, 617 Squadron welcome two more pilots to their squadrons. The both F35B Lightning Jet pilots conducted their first landing and take off from HMS Queen Elizabeth.
The United Kingdom and the United States of America have been proving interoperability between their ships and strike fighter squadrons while at sea.
F-35B Lightning II jets from 617 Squadron and from United States Marine Corps VMFA 211 are embarked on the Royal Navy flagship HMS Queen Elizabeth and they have been conducting sorties with the aircraft of US Navy amphibious assault ship USS America (LHA 6). Joint exercising between the UK Carrier Strike Group and the US Expeditionary Strike Group 7 have covered a rang of serials, including Naval Gunfire Support to amphibious landings, Replenishment at Sea and joint flying.
HMS Queen Elizabeth is the deployed flag ship for Carrier Strike Group 21(CSG21). CSG21 will see the ship along with the Strike Group work with over 40 countries from around the world. The Strike Group will operate and exercise with other Countries Navies and Air Forces during the 7 month deployment.
The Strike Group includes ships from the United States Navy, The Dutch Navy, and Marines from the US Marine Corps. As well as UK Frigates, Destroyers two RFA supply ships and air assets from 617 Sqn, 820 NAS, 815 NAS and 845 NAS. HMS Queen Elizabeth conducts a night Replenishment At Sea (Fuel) (RAS(F)) with RFA Tidespring on 21 June 2021.

The night RAS took place whilst HMS Queen Elizabeth and the wider Task Group took part in operations in the Mediterranean Sea.

Carrier Strike Group completes final exercise before setting sail for first operational deployment this weekend

Wednesday 19 May 2021 saw a historic moment in Britainís carrier renaissance as HMS Queen Elizabeth and HMS Prince of Wales met at sea for the first time.
With two 65,000 tonne carriers in operational service, Britain has a continuous carrier strike capability, with one vessel always ready to respond to global events at short notice.

HMS Prince of Wales Ship's Company make final preparations as the Ship leaves Portsmouth Dockyard for operational taskings for the first time in 2021.
HMS Prince of Wales has returned to sea for a spell of testing and trialling, following several months of maintenance and installing key equipment. HMS Prince of Wales is most capable and powerful surface warship ever built for the Royal Navy and will be a future flagship for the next 50 years.
The 73,000 tonnes ship and her crew will then proceed to the Southwest cost to conduct a period of Basic Operational Sea Training to test ship and crew capabilities. The intense operational training enables - Availability, Sustainability and Lethality of HMS Prince of Wales. The Shipís Company are crucial to the successful operation of the ship and training and trials are essential in ensuring that HMS Prince of Wales is the cornerstone of a Modern, Ready and Global Navy for a Global Britain.

HMS Queen Elizabeth has embarked two squadrons of F-35B stealth jets: the UK’s 617 Sqn and US Marine Corps fighter attack squadron 211. Alongside eight Merlin helicopters of 820 and 846 Naval Air Squadrons it is the largest air group to operate from a Royal Navy carrier in more than thirty years, and the largest air group of fifth generation fighters at sea anywhere in the world.
This month’s Group Exercise (‘GROUPEX’) will see HMS Queen Elizabeth joined by warships from the UK, US and the Netherlands, which will accompany the carrier on her first global deployment in 2021. However, before then, the newly-formed Carrier Strike Group will be put through its paces off the north east coast of Scotland as part of Joint Warrior, NATO’s largest annual exercise.© MOD Crown Copyright / eyevine

HMS Queen Elizabeth ship's company celebrated the 75th anniversary of VE Day (Victory in Europe), with the flight deck team using glow sticks to spell out the message (VE Day 75).
The Armed Forces have led the nation in commemorating the 75th anniversary of Victory in Europe and have paid tribute to the enormous sacrifices of the Greatest Generation in restoring peace to the continent.
On Friday 8 May 2020 sailors and Royal Marines around the world paused to pay tribute to the sacrifices made by their forebears in World War Two. Ships and naval bases at home and abroad joined the rest of the UK in marking the 75th anniversary of VE Day.

Britain’s newest aircraft carrier, HMS Prince of Wales, has sailed from Rosyth Dockyard for the first time.
Eight years after her first steel was cut, the 65,000 tonne warship will head under the iconic Forth Bridges in the coming week to begin her initial sea trials.
The carrier will conduct extensive sea trials off the coast of North East Scotland upon departing Rosyth before arriving at her home port of Portsmouth later this year.
Upon her entry to Portsmouth, she will be officially commissioned into the Royal Navy by her Lady Sponsor, HRH The Duchess of Cornwall, and sit alongside her sister ship for the first time.
