    An AI-powered unmanned fighter jet capable of vertical take-off and landing has been unveiled.
    The X-BAT is said to be designed for expeditionary and maritime operations in hostile, contested environments.
    It can be teamed with piloted fighter planes and collaborate autonomously with other drones, even when radio communications and GPS aren't available.
    It has the ability to land and take off without a runway with long-range endurance.
    The X-BAT, effectively a giant drone , has been developed by US defence company Shield AI.
    It has been conceived as a combat aircraft able to fly in areas that suffer from jammed communications and other electronic warfare measures.
    The ability to land take off and land vertically allows it to operate without relying on runways.
    It has a range of over 2,000 nautical miles / 3,700 km which makes it suitable for remote areas, islands, and ship decks.
    The X-BAT wingspan is 12 metres while the fuselage is eight metres long.
    California-based Shield AI's own artificial intelligence software serves as the brains of X-BAT and allows it to carry out complex tactical manoeuvres.
    X-BAT's power plant is the same as found in an F-16 fighter plane, able to reach speeds of just over the speed of sound at Mach 1.2 / 1,480 km/h.

    It has a range of over 2,000 nautical miles / 3,700 km which makes it suitable for remote areas, islands, and ship decks.
    The X-BAT wingspan is 12 metres while the fuselage is eight metres long.
    California-based Shield AI's own artificial intelligence software serves as the brains of X-BAT and allows it to carry out complex tactical manoeuvres.
    X-BAT's power plant is the same as found in an F-16 fighter plane, able to reach speeds of just over the speed of sound at Mach 1.2 / 1,480 km/h.
