The stunning Venus de Milo statue has inspired a new pen, made in marble just like the real thing. The original statue, believed to date from between 130 and 100 BC, was discovered by a farm boy on the Aegean island on Milo in 1820.To mark the 200th anniversary of the discovery, Italian writing instrument company Montegrappa has created a limited edition pen in marble and yellow 18 carat gold. It recreates what is believed to be the statue of the Greek goddess of love Aphrodite but carries the name of her Roman equivalent, Venus. It is currently housed at the Louvre in Paris. The barrel holding the voluptuous three-dimensional figure is made from Italian marble powder in resin. The pen , available as a fountain or rollerball, comes with an 18K gold nib.The Montegrappa Venus de Milo limited edition gold fountain pen is limited to eight pieces and costs €15.900 Euros. The rollerball version, limited to just four pieces, is €19.900 EurosA less expensive version is available in bronze instead of gold.
