Kittens Kept On Their Toes By Extra Digits
These adorable kittens are all fingers, thumbs and toes - sharing a whopping 54 digits between them.
Four-month-old brothers Fred and Ned are polydactyl cats, which means they were born with extra toes.
Most felines have 18 digits consisting of four toes on each back paw and five on each front paw.
But Ned has an extra eight digits and Fred an extra10 - making a total of 54 toes between them.
The kittens are currently being looked after by Cats Protection in Gosport, Hampshire before heading off to their new home.
Volunteer Kate Stapleford comments: "These two kittens were in poor condition when they arrived but with veterinary attention and a lot of TLC from their fosterer Fred & Ned are now thriving.
"They are wonderful, confident kittens and we are delighted that they have found a new home together.
"Fred and Ned are special in that as well as extra toes on the front paws, Fred has extra toes on his back paws. Our vet said he'd never seen that in 40 years in practice!
"Although they look a little unusual, the extra toes do not affect their health in any way and we know they will make the perfect companions for their new owner".
Although not common, polydactyl cats can be found across the UK.
It is a genetic condition that, in the majority of cases, causes no harm to the cat.
Some polydactyl cats have just one extra toe on each paw but others can have two or even three extra on each foot.
If a polydactyl cat has kittens there is a good chance some of her kittens will also have the condition.

Kittens Kept On Their Toes By Extra Digits
These adorable kittens are all fingers, thumbs and toes - sharing a whopping 54 digits between them.
Four-month-old brothers Fred and Ned are polydactyl cats, which means they were born with extra toes.
Most felines have 18 digits consisting of four toes on each back paw and five on each front paw.
But Ned has an extra eight digits and Fred an extra10 - making a total of 54 toes between them.
The kittens are currently being looked after by Cats Protection in Gosport, Hampshire before heading off to their new home.
Volunteer Kate Stapleford comments: "These two kittens were in poor condition when they arrived but with veterinary attention and a lot of TLC from their fosterer Fred & Ned are now thriving.
"They are wonderful, confident kittens and we are delighted that they have found a new home together.
"Fred and Ned are special in that as well as extra toes on the front paws, Fred has extra toes on his back paws. Our vet said he'd never seen that in 40 years in practice!
"Although they look a little unusual, the extra toes do not affect their health in any way and we know they will make the perfect companions for their new owner".
Although not common, polydactyl cats can be found across the UK.
It is a genetic condition that, in the majority of cases, causes no harm to the cat.
Some polydactyl cats have just one extra toe on each paw but others can have two or even three extra on each foot.
If a polydactyl cat has kittens there is a good chance some of her kittens will also have the condition.

It would seem that even the most fashion conscious of celebs can have an off day.
The stylists of these dreadfully dressed divas were obviously not around when they stepped out of the front door.
If they had they surely would have uttered that immortal line: "You're not going out like that!"
When left unattended there's no end of fashion faux pas a star can commit when looking for a 'stand out from the crowd' outfit.
But then looking fabulous 24/7 is something not even the most dedicated of A-listers can achieve.
And navigating the tricky minefield of fashion can be tricky at the best of times and pure style suicide at the worst.
Your 'unusual' outfit can just as easily be feted on every best dressed list as see you plunging to the bottom of the reject pile.
All of which goes to show that not even the hottest stars are immune to the odd fashion disaster.
