'I'd be lost without it': locals battle to save Carlisle’s Turkish baths
One of UK's last public Turkish baths may close next month unless campaigners can win round the council.

Carlisle's Victorian-style baths opened in 1909, and were awarded Grade II listing in 2010 in recognition of their decorative tiling and glazed stonework, as well as the stained-glass ceiling above the plunge pool.

One of the most affordable Turkish baths in the UK, with entry costing £7.10, they have a devoted community of regulars who put the world to rights in the sauna and three hot rooms several nights a week.

But Carlisle city council decided to mothball the complex after investing £27m in a new leisure centre on the other side of town.

Time is tight to save the baths, with councillors set to decide on Monday 3 October whether to close the site or maintain it, while campaigners work on a plan to take over and develop the baths as a community asset.

A couple have put their 'Bond style' fantasy house up for sale. Steppingstone is the vision of sporting tycoon Steve O'Connor and his wife Clare and, amongst other things, boasts a football pitch, bathroom cinema and the ultimate 'man cave'. The property boasts four floors but only two sit aboveground. When Steve brought the 4 acre plot there was an existing cottage and he was warned by planners that building space would be limited. To get around this he decided to go down and 55,000 cubic metres of earth was removed to create the crater that the house sits in. However, thanks to inventive use of both natural and artificial light it is only the wine cellar that noticeably feels underground. Steppingstone took two years to complete and, according to Steve, the five-bedroom, 10-bathroom property was 'built around play'.

In a bid to wash that Rolling Stone right out of her hair a soon to be divorced Jo Wood is selling up and moving on. She has put her expansive and eclectic home, Holmwood House in Kingston Hill, Surrey, on the market for GBP 13m. Despite the rock 'n' roll property being only being 12 miles from central London, Jo, 53, is keen to move to town following the official end of her 24-year marriage to Ronnie Wood. Famously, the Rolling Stone guitarist brought their two-and-a-half-decades together to an end when he started a fling with an 18-year-old waitress. That relationship may not have lasted but there is certainly not going back for Ronnie and Jo, who has keenly embraced the single life. In a bid to move on she has put the former family home, which over the years has been host to a number of lavish parties, up for sale.

AS US POOR MORTALS STRUGGLE TO COPE WITH THE CREDIT CRUNCH, A BILLIONAIRE OPENS A MONUMENT TO EXCESS.

elebrities meet royals, the rooms are made of gold, and you need a boat to cross the swimming pool - welcome to the most luxurious hotel on earth.

Russian tycoon owner Telman Ismailov flew in Mariah Carey, 39, and Sir tom Jones to perform at alst weekend's opening ceremony.

Imagine a hotel with champagne that costs £36 a glass, offers remote controlled toilets (no kidding) when you go for your private business and is situated on one of the most remarkable coastlines of Europe - introducing the very expensive Mardan Palace on the Turkish coast of Antalya. Reminiscent of a European Dubai as the Times Online labelled the area, Antalya is fast becoming the latest tourist hub for sun starving tourists of northern regions.

The fact that the English pound still has some buying power in Turkey also helps to draw a healthy amount of tourists to the regions of Antalya.

Boasting some remarkable hotels already, Antalya is now going to be home to the most expensive hotel in Europe at a cool price of £1bn.

Looking at the pictures of the hotel we canÕt help but be reminded of the grandeur we often come across in Las Vegas. Hand picked staff will cater to your every whim at all hours of the day and night and the international airport is a short 15 minute car ride.

The hotel is fitted out in so much gold leaf you could probably plaster all the walls of your home with it and more. There are some 10,000 square metres of gold leaf, aided and abetted by 500,000 crystals and 23,000 square metres of Italian marble.

Musicians will entertain the distinguished guests and no expense has been spared when the hotel was built. Just take the pool itself, a full five acres of sparkling blue waters with bridges inspired by Leonardo da Vinci. Guest can enjoy gondola rides to be ferried across the pool and a trip from one end to the other of the pool takes 30 minutes.
