Doomsday village in France
December 18, 2012 - Paris, France: Scene in Bugarach, a small French village rumoured to be the only place spared when our world comes to an end on December 21, according to a Mayan prophecy. French authorities have pleaded with New Age fanatics, sightseers and media crews not to converge on the tiny village. Routes will also be blocked to the nearby Pic de Bugarach, a mountain where rumour has it the hilltop will open on the last day,December 21, and aliens will emerge with spaceships to save nearby humans. Around 150 police officers will be on duty to turn away visitors from Bugarach, which in recent weeks has seen an influx of journalists from around the world. Believers see Bugarach as one of a few sacred mountains sheltered from the cataclysm. (POLARIS) (FOTO:DUKAS/POLARIS)

Mother tiger gives cubs a wash by licking them at Parc des Felins zoo, Seine-et-Marne, France - 11 Jan 2012

Lick It Or Not, You're Having A Wash
This mother gave new meaning to the term 'tongue lashing' when she collared her cubs for a bath.
The young siberian tigers seemed eager to squirm away as they were hauled in for a clean.
But their mum was determined to get the job done and, at one point, even used her massive paws to pin one of her mischievous offspring down.
The big cat showed who was boss as she gave each one a good licking - despite their unimpressed expressions.
The tender moments between the rare tigers were captured by photographer Eric Cunha at French zoo Parc des Felins in Seine-et-Marne.
The 41-year-old spent several days photographing the tigers in their enclosures.
He said: "Each enclosure is between two and five hectares and it can sometimes be difficult to observe the animals.
"I used very long telephoto lenses to get these shots.
"I've had a great reaction to the pictures. People are amazed by the tenderness these big cats show to their babies".

World's oldest running motor car sells for record price, Pennsylvania, America - 09 Oct 2011

World's Oldest Running Motor Car Sells For Record Price
The world's oldest running motor car has entered the history books after selling for GBP 2,978,320 ($4.62m).
The historic 1884 De Dion Bouton et Trepardoux Dos-a-Dos Steam Runabout went under the hammer at a RM Auctions sale in Pennsylvania, America.
The impressive sale price was more than double its original estimate and represents a new world record for an early motor car sold at auction.
Commissioned by French entrepreneur Count de Dion, and named 'La Marquise' after his mother, the 127 year old steam-powered vehicle was constructed 12 years before Henry Ford assembled his first car
Measuring nine feet long and weighing in at 2,100 pounds, the vehicle has a maximum speed of 38 miles per hour and takes 45 minutes to generate enough steam to move.
Count De Dion owned the vehicle until 1906 when he sold it to French army officer Henri Doriol.
The Doriol family went on to own 'La Marquise' for the next 81 years.
It then ended up in the hands of Tim Moore, a member of the British Veteran Car Club, in 1987.
Rob Myers, Chairman & Founder of RM Auctions, commented: "We were honoured to have been entrusted with the sale of this most important motor car.
"The world's leading automotive collectors recognized the incredibly rare opportunity the sale represented, as was reflected in the spirited bidding and impressive result".
