Bark! The Herald Angels sing? A dogs' nativity play in London - in pictures
Anni Harrison was walking her dog Monty in East Greenwich Pleasaunce park when she jokingly mentioned to fellow dog walkers what a laugh it would be to hold a nativity play with dogs. With a shared love of dogs, community and sense of fun, the Nativity in the Park was born. The first year it was freezing and rained non-stop. The second year was cancelled after the loss of beloved pet Bear, who played the original Joseph. This year it was spectacularly revived in memory of lost furry friends and also raised money for Battersea Dogs and Cats Home

Dog owners from all walks of life join in the nativity play. It's clearly a fantastic community event and loved by everyone involved.

The nativity play is put on by local dog owners. It's all scripted and acted by pets dressed in costume. There was a chorus of We Three King Spaniels, Bark, The Herald Angels Sing and as Mr Biscuits, the baby Jesus, was placed in the stable, a final chorus of 'Away in a basket " .

This years nativity was in memory of two beloved pets, Zaffo and Bear, the original Joseph. Bear was a chocolate brown lab and described to me as the gentle giant of the park. He was notorious for eating wheels of Brie and snaffling liqueur chocolates from work counters at Christmas time.
