'It's not woke': Braverman dig leaves bitter taste in Tory tofu capital
Ex-home secretary's rant causes eye-rolls in Malton, where 52% of soya bean curd bought in UK is produced.
On the Tory benches, eyes were also rolling. Kevin Hollinrake, the MP for Thirsk and Malton in North Yorkshire, tweeted that the "world's best" tofu was made in his constituency.
Three weeks ago, Hollinrake was tucking into a tofu wrap at Tofoo, the UK's biggest tofu brand, which in just six years has grown annual sales from £426,000 to £18.6m last year. It now produces 52% of all tofu bought in the UK from an industrial estate in Malton, where a staff of 160 press soya bean curds into 400,000 charmingly ragged blocks of organic tofu every week.

Kishorn Port LTD director Simon Russell with the Ocean Greatwhite oil rig in the background
The Ocean Greatwhite oil rig, Kishorn Port, Highlands, Scotland, UK - 15 Jan 2019
A west Highlands yard has taken on its first major oil and gas industry contract in more than 40 years.
Kishorn was used in the 1970s for the construction of the Ninian Central oil production platform.Weighing more than 600,000 tonnes, the platform was the world's largest floating concrete structure.
Now Kishorn is to being used for servicing the world's biggest semi-submersible offshore drilling rig, Ocean GreatWhite. The 60,800-tonne rig, which was towed from Singapore via Las Palmas in the Canaries, requires deep water for anchoring.Following the servicing work, the rig will be put to use in a drilling contract in the North Sea.
The Highlands yard was recently refurbished to make it ready for new work.Simon Russell, director at Kishorn Port, said: "We've been working for 10 years on the regeneration of the port, and this is like the sleeping giant awakening."It's an exciting time for the area, and hopefully this work will lead to further contracts, and local employment."
