A grandmother from Tenby in South West Wales is celebrating her return home after spending the last five years running around the world. Rosie Swale Pope left her home in October 2003 to set off on her marathon journey in order to raise awareness of prostate cancer after it claimed the life of her husband. She returned to a rapturous reception from residents in her home town as she made the final steps on her gruelling 20,000 mile trip. The 61-year-old hobbled into Tenby on crutches after being diagnosed with stress fractures, but that didn't stop her celebrating when she reached the sign that marked the entrance to the town. During her epic journey Rosie has braved freezing temperatures in the wastes of Siberia and Alaska, has been hit by a bus, suffered pneumonia and frostbite and had a breast cancer scare. Clasping a glass of champagne she saluted the crowd who gathered to welcome her home, commenting that she was "overwhelmed" by everyone (FOTO:DUKAS/REX)

Augusto Pinochet's military coup. On September 11, 1973, General Augusto Pin ochet came to power in a coup d'etat, during which the Chilean Air Forces bo mbed the Presidential Palace and where President Allende died during the ass ault. It was the begining of a 17-years military government making approxima tely 28.000 victims (Valech Report, 2004), including human right abuses, tor ture and summary executions. On March 11, 1990, Pinochet left the presidence after the presidential elections. In October 1998, Pinochet is arrested unde r an international arrest warrant, finally and despite protestation, he retu rned to Chile on 2 March 2000, allegely for medical reasons.
