On September 11, 1973, General Augusto Pinochet came to power in a coup d'etat, during which the Chilean Air Forces bombed the Presidential Palace and where President Allende died during the assault. It was the begining of a 17-years military government making approximately 28.000 victims (Valech Report, 2004), including human right abuses, torture and summary executions. In October 1998, Pinochet left the presidence after the presidential elections. In October 1998, Pinochet is arrested under an international arrest warrant, finally and despite prote stations, he returned to Chile on 2 March 2000, allegely for medical reasons.
