Digger company JCB has unveiled a new pothole-repairing machine that it claims is able to repair holes in less than eight minutes.Called the Pothole Pro, the all-in-one machine repairs holes four times faster than traditional methods yet is also significantly cheaper, according to the British firm.It is equipped with a cutter, sweeper/bucket and a hydraulic cropping tool, allowing it to cut defects, crop pothole edges and clean holes.By streamlining these tasks, which would traditionally be done manually by pothole-filling teams, JCB says the Pothole Pro reduces daily costs by up to half.It has a 25mph top speed so can also save transport costs by relocating quickly between sites.A 600mm-wide planar and integrated dust-suppression system, lets the driver plane a full carriageway from the curb without repositioning. In initial testing, the machine filled 51 holes in 20 days – a task that JCB says would have taken a team of up to six people 63 days to achieve. The Pothole Pro was trialled during 2020 in Stoke-on-Trent, where it repaired holes at a rate equivalent to 700 per month

OPS: The Pothole Pro in action.

NEWS - Angriff der Braunalgen in der Karibik
Workers remove Sargassum seaweed at Gran Bahia Principe Beach near Tulum, Quintana Roo state, Mexico on August 17, 2018. Sargassum—a brown seaweed that lives in the open ocean—has overwhelmed shorelines along the East Coast of the United States, Gulf of Mexico, and the Caribbean. Researchers say that the Sargassum outbreak started in 2011, but it has become worse over the years and could cause a serious environmental disaster. As the Sargassum is cleaned up on the shorelines, in a matter of days the shorelines are once again filled. When the Sargassum seaweed lands and starts to decompose, a toxic hydrogen sulfide gas is released, spreading an unpleasant odor and potentially causing adverse health effects. Apart from being an annoyance for tourists, Sargassum also affects oxygen levels in the water, brings contaminants and other microorganisms to the beach, changes the ecological balance of coral and causes beach erosion when its removed in such large quantities. There are several factors that could explain the proliferation of Sargassum in recent years. These include the rise of sea temperatures, the change of sea currents due to climate change and nutrients dumped into the ocean from farming and deforestation around the world. When 32-year-old horse Feller fell to the ground after injuring its leg owners Karen and Peter Jaggs feared the worse. With Feller unable to stand and sprawled in a field, someone at Barnfield Riding Stables in Chingford remembered seeing a reality televison programme where fire crews were called to lift a stricken horse. So they called for assistance and two fire teams - a specialist rescue crew and a speciaist large animal crew - were sent. Firefighters managed to requisition a JCB digger and used fire service heavy animal lifting equipment to slowly raise Feller to his feet. Looking on anxiously, Karen and Peter held their breath as the horse was examined by a vet, but, thankfully, Feller soon found his feet and ran off.
