SALUTE TO (FILM) ADVENTURE
Across a massive cannon on the deck of the ' Lydia ', Gregory Peck, as ' Captain Hornblower, ' splices the main brace' with two tough henchman to mark the first day of filming of the new Warner pictures ' Captain Horatio Hornblower ' at Denham Studios, Bucks.
On left is Robert Beatty, who plays Lieutenant Governor's, first officer of the ' Lydia ', and on right James Robertson Justice, as Quist, ex-convict seamen and leader of the press-gang.
Justice has another serious battle on hand - he is contesting North Angus and millions in the forthcoming general election.
For his part in the film, Gregory Peck has been absorbing British naval history for weeks.
The ' Lydia ' has been adapted for the film from her part as the good ship ' Hispaniola ' in the film ' Treasure Island '.

The 1st Battalion Royal Northumberland Fusiliers disembarked at Southampton today after 18 years' service abroad.
The Battalion had returned from Gibraltar in the 17,362 ton Empire Orwell, Britain's largest troopship, which had 1,400 troops and services' families aboard.

Once upon a time their clean cut good looks set a legion of hearts fluttering.
And while their fans are still many, these now matured leading men have very clearly left their boyhood behind.
For most the years have brought movie and music success but a number of unwanted visitors have also tagged along.
Luscious locks are now tinged with grey and a once youthful glow has given way to more rugged looks.
Meanwhile, chiseled jaws and abs have, in some cases, receded behind a little more flesh.
For some the passage of years and the transition from boy to man has more unkind than for others.
