Yala Panchadan, The Festival Of Five Summer Gifts Observed In Nepal
Nepali monks roam around the ancient city of Patan in Lalitpur District, Nepal, on August 1, 2025, while observing the Yala Panchadan, the festival of five summer gifts. They perform rituals on the day of Yala Panchadan in Patan of Lalitpur on August 1, 2025. Barefooted monks walk around the ancient town receiving alms and chanting hymns and prayers. This festival is celebrated by Bajrayana Buddhists, especially Shakyas and Bajracharyas, from the Newar community of Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, Lalitpur, Panauti, and Banepa. On this day, people donate based on their capacity--rice, money, and other items. Dipankar Buddhas are kept at various locations, and this festivity has continued for more than 700 years. On this day, Buddhist artifacts are displayed in monasteries and households, and giant idols of Dipankara Buddhas are paraded around town. People worship the Dipankara Buddhas and offer Panchadan--which comprises rice grains, wheat grains, fruit, salt, and money--to alms-seekers. According to legend, the Panchadan festival is celebrated every year since Nepal Sambat 512 (AD 1390). (Photo by Subaas Shrestha/NurPhoto)

The people making a difference – the mum giving free phones and games to young people in need
Kayla Ellis is making sure families in her area arenÕt going without Ð and it doesnÕt cost her a penny. Now it is her turn to be treated.

Kayla Ellis at home in Cardiff with donated items for her Ôcharity shopÕ.

Kayla Ellis's children came home from school recently and asked their mother what was going on: the hallway was full of bags of clothing, trainers and toys. Ellis remembers her own mother also eyeing the chaos Ð and telling her she'd bitten off more than she could chew. Her mother was referring to the unofficial charity shop that Ellis has installed in her house.

Kayla Ellis, photographed at home in Cardiff, 29 March 2022. Kayla runs a donations based giving service from her garden, she currently keeps the items in her home but has just finished a justgiving campaign in a storage shed for her garden. Items are distributed for free to those who need them.

Motor racing driver Billy Monger (wizz) Who lost both legs racing at Donington park last year, at his home near Gatwick.
Billy Monger had both legs amputated after a racing crash last year. But the teenager is walking, swimming and driving again. Like many teenagers, the racing driver Billy Monger spent his 18th birthday in the pub with friends. But getting there was slightly complicated: he had to sneak out of hospital in a wheelchair he had only just become accustomed to.

A fortnight earlier, Monger had nearly been killed in a crash at Donington Park while driving in a Formula 4 race. He had both legs amputated in hospital Ñ one below the knee, the other just above.

The accident in April last year triggered one of the fastest just giving campaigns in history with 20,000 people including Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button donating more than £800,000 to help with his rehabilitation.

    STUDIO - Billy Monger

Shahmir Sanni, a volunteer with Vote Leave, the official campaign to leave the European Union led by Boris Johnson and Michael Gove. Vote Leave flouted the Brexit referendum spending rules and then attempted to destroy evidence. Sanni has revealed the evidence. by a mass of documents and files that he has passed to the Electoral Commission and the police.
Sanni’s central claim concerns a donation of £625,000 that Vote Leave ostensibly made to an independent referendum campaign organisation called BeLeave. He claims the money, channelled to a digital services firm linked to the controversial Cambridge Analytica firm, violated election rules because it was not a genuine donation. Most of the £625,000 donation went to a Canadian data company called AggregateIQ, which has links to Cambridge Analytica, the firm that used harvested Facebook data to build a political targeting system in the US.
