Dekoda is a health tracker that analyses what’s in the toilet to assess hydration and gut health.

The main hardware, containing the battery and USB-C port, is visible on the outside of the toilet rim.
The Dekoda contains the optical sensors while camera faces downward into the bowl.
It analyses images of waste samples after each use.
The system’s sensors evaluate hydration levels, identify blood traces, and assess general gut health patterns.

The new fecal monitor is installed in the bowl next to the washlet water nozzle and works just like a barcode scanner.
The consistency is then classified into one of seven categories.
These are identified as clumps, lumpy, cracked, normal, semi-solid, muddy, and liquid.
The shade of brown is also measured and given one of three categories.
The data is logged for each toilet visit and can be viewed on a smartphone app, which also offers lifestyle advice on how to have more consistently normal poos.
In recent years, interest in extending healthy life expectancy and preventing lifestyle-related diseases has grown in Japan, and awareness of daily health management has improved.

Tokyo offers toilet tours amid flush of excitement over Wim Wenders's Oscar hopeful
Shibuya district is offering tours of its architect-designed public facilities that feature in Perfect Days.
Japan's hi-tech toilets have long fascinated visitors who rave about their heated seats, bidet function, automatic flushing, and even background noises to mask the unwelcome sounds that can accompany the call of nature.
Now, international interest in the country's public conveniences is surging thanks to the German director Wim Wenders, whose film Perfect Days - the story of Hirayama (Koji Yakusho), a Tokyo toilet cleaner - is in the reckoning for best international feature at Sunday's Academy Awards.
A public toilet in Tokyo, where interest in the facilities is surging after the release of Perfect Days, which has been nominated for an Oscar.
