A zoo is giving people a more intimate picture of its animals – after having them X-rayed.The procedure was done was part of continuing health checks on the wildlife population at Oregon Zoo in Portland, Oregon, USA.And they give incredible detail of the mammals, birds, lizards and amphibians who live at the park.A spokesperson said:” How do you x-ray a 320-pound (145 kilo) tiger? Very carefully, of course — and with state-of-the-art equipment.Every animal at the Oregon Zoo receives routine health exams, and often these checkups include x-rays. “Digital radiology has proved a useful diagnostic tool and helped the zoo’s animal experts provide excellent health care. “Digital radiology allows us to get X-ray results faster and fine-tune the images after taking them, so we’re able to minimize anaesthesia and examination time for animals, according to zoo veterinarians. “This decreased anaesthesia time means lower risk and improved safety for our patients. “Plus we can digitally archive images for later comparison, and share X-rays with consultants and veterinary staff at other zoos.” Zoo vets noted that the digital system produces images with great detail and clarity — which helps ensure excellent health care for the animals, and it also provides a unique glimpse inside the world of wildlife.The equipment used by the zoo was funded largely by a donation from the state’s Banfield Pet Hospital.

FEATURE - Eine Farm voll Enten
Hundreds of ducks waddle along in an almost regimented fashion as they graze in a secluded farm.
Photographer Akhlas Uddin captured the stunning photographs on a farm in the village of Badaghat in Bangladesh.
In the photos, a large number of the ducks look like identical copies of one another - however, one solid white duck stands out from the rest.
Akhlas, 44, from Sylhet city in Bangladesh, said when the ducks would all start quacking together it would be extremely loud and humorous.

Grebes running on water by Rick Derevan
These birds are seen mirroring each other as they perform their courtship dance on water. Pairs of Western Grebes (brown feathers through the eye) and Clark's Grebes (white feathers extend above the eye) were seen performing the on water spectacle at Santa Margarita Lake in San Luis Obispo County, California.
Retired appellate lawyer Rick Derevan, 75, said,"When the grebes run on the water, it's called rushing. I can be a male and female boding, or two males competing. Sometimes you will see three or more rushing together, and I'm told there's typically one female in those groups. They usually make a noise before they start running, so I as the photographer get an alert, giving me a little warning. They move their feet very fast and the rushing is typically completed in under 10 seconds so you need to be quick to get good photos. Western and Clark's grebes breed communally so you'll see many of them rushing in the same general area of a lake." (FOTO: DUKAS/SOLENT NEWS)
