Pity the deer running through this forest... they may unknowingly encounter a house with mirrored walls.

The lower floor of this new property just outside the Polish capital of Warsaw features reflective surfaces on its lower floor.

The effect is to make the upper level appear to be floating above the forest floor.

Described as a country retreat for a single family, the building has been designed to cause a minimum of disturbance to the natural surroundings.

Grabbing a crab lunch can be tricky when you are only blessed with small paws.

This California sea otter looked as if it had eaten something it didn't like as it tackled the pincers.

But the marine mammal knew exactly how to minimise the nasty nips from it's blue crab prey - it simply flipped the alive-and-kicking crustaceans onto their backs.

Photographer Michael Yang spotted the fascinating feeding display at Moss Landing in California on Saturday (12 Nov).

Michael explains: "The sea otter would disappear underwater for up to a minute at a time and come up with one or two crabs.

"It would bite off the legs and chew on the shell to get to the meat inside. The shell must have been hard because I was able to hear the crunching as the otter chewed.

"Since the crabs were still alive (I was able to see the legs of the crabs flailing), the otter would flip the crabs upside down so they would not be able to crawl away."

Unlucky bird lands in wrong place, Florida, America - 08 Apr 2010
SEE YOU LATER ALLIGATOR: UNLUCKY LANDING FOR EGRET

This unlucky egret thought he had found a perfect spot to go fishing - but he ended up being the prey when an alligator launched a furious attack.

The bird had even chased off another egret from the spot before the 10ft-long reptile emerged from beneath the water.

It grabbed hold of the snowy egret's foot before devouring it in a matter of minutes.

The remarkable ambush was caught on camera by amateur photographer Michael Rosenbaum.

The 61-year-old library worker had popped out to take some snaps in the Green Cay wetlands, in Boynton Beach, Florida, before heading into work.

He said: "The wetlands are home to lots of wading or marsh birds, as well as numerous alligators.

"Usually the alligators catch turtles or fish rather than birds.

"Like people, birds sometimes bully other birds but this is a case of 'be careful what you wish for' or bullying gone wrong.

"The snowy egret had chased off another snowy egret from this location about 15 seconds before the attack.

"The alligator had been lurking beneath the duckweed and while the snowy egret was still enjoying his newly won fishing location, it reared up.

"Before the snowy could escape, the alligator got hold of its foot in its mouth.

"It was less than three minutes from catching the bird's foot to the alligator swallowing the bird."
