Axe to grind: toolmaking father and daughter Robin and JoJo Wood revive lost Sheffield tradition.
Tired of cheap, poor-quality tools, Robin and JoJo Wood decided to resurrect the craft - with orders now coming from around the world.
Axes are being forged in Sheffield again for the first time in decades, after a father-and-daughter team revived the city's lost tradition.
Robin Wood, 59, and his daughter, JoJo, 30, teach courses in spoon carving, a craft that requires the use of an axe. The Woods became frustrated that there was no UK-produced axe they could recommend to students.
So they decided to create their own, which after almost six years and many design tweaks is now being produced in Sheffield.

Fafher and daughter Robin and JoJo Wood, who have teamed up as Wood Tools to design and create the first Sheffield axes to be made in the steel city for 30 years. The duo were photographed hand grinding at the Beehive Works, previously the workshop of Sheffield's last jobbing grander, Brian Alcock, who worked there from the 1970s right up until when he died last year.

Feeding its hungry chicks is such a full-time occupation for this barn owl that it's been forced to hunt during the day. Widlife photographer Richard Austin caught the rare sight as the bird hunted for voles at the Axe Valley bird reserve in Devon. The owl, who is nesting and feeding chicks at a nearby old barn, was seen making trip after trip in order to find food for it's no doubt voracious brood. As Barn owls are mainly nocturnal it is unusual to see when venturing out and about in the middle of the day. The species often hunt from exposed perches and in low flight. Their exceptional hearing means that they can find prey by sound alone.
