Vegetable Gardens At Nowa Huta Prison In Krakow
In Krakow, Poland, on August 27, 2025, a vegetable garden in the women's ward is tended by inmates, and laundry is hung out at the Nowa Huta Prison. Thanks to a partnership between Krakow's Municipal Greenery Authority and the Krakow Remand Prison, inmates cultivate vegetable gardens on prison grounds as part of an urban gardening program. The garden has been running for three years in the women's ward, and since last year also in the men's ward, where since 2025 vegetables are grown alongside flowers. In addition to gardening, inmates also take part in other projects such as building hedgehog houses and insect hotels. The initiative is designed to teach responsibility and care, while also providing meaningful ways to spend time. Participation is voluntary, and all harvests belong to those who work in the gardens. Driver caught speeding 22 times on same London road in 3 weeks
A laundry delivery driver faces having 81 penalty points put on his licence after being caught speeding 22 times on the same stretch of road in less than three weeks.
Peter McPherson, 58, racked up the offences during his shifts for Galicia Laundry, which provides linen, towels and clothing to hotels, spas and restaurants in London. He has admitted committing the offences on a 30mph stretch of the A40 Westway flyover between July 15 and August 1 last year.
On July 15 alone, he was caught by average speed cameras on four occasions. A temporary 30mph restriction was imposed on the Westway in 2020 during repairs but has now been made permanent. McPherson’s lawyers say he already has seven points on his licence and concede that he now faces up to 81.

How the UK’s dutiful launderette is fading under Covid and energy prices.
A much-loved community space and an essential service, their days now seem numbered.
Danial Kochak, who helps his dad Masoud Kochak run the Barbican launderette in London, says their loyal group of regulars cushioned the financial impact of Covid. The launderette’s mouthwash green palette harkens back to the early 1970s, when it opened.
