A near mint copy of an ultra rare Superman comic book is being backed to become the world’s most expensive at over $6 million USD,
It is a first edition of the Man of Steel’s own title, Superman, published byDC Comics found in a mother’s pre-war comic book collection and rated 9.0 out 10 by official graders,
In 1922, a copy rated initially at 8.0 that sold for $5.3 million USD in a private sale making it the second most valuable comic book ever sold.
The following year it was upgraded to 8.5, rendering it even more valuable.
The new find is set to overhaul the current world record holder, a copy of Action Comics No. 1 which first introduced Superman to the world in 1939.
It sold for $6 million in 2024.
The new find was discovered by three brothers in California while taking stock of their late mother’s belongings in their family home in San Francisco.
They discovered a cache of old comic books, tucked away in an attic beneath layers of faded newspapers and cobwebs.
The comic is being sold by US saleroom Heritage Auctions at a special comic books auction between November 20 and 22 this year.
OPS:Rear cover of the near mint edition of Supmerman No.1 from 1939, which could become the world'smost expensive comic book.
