GERMANY: 20TH ANNIVERSARY OF FALL OF BERLIN WALL
16th June, 2009 - Berlin, Germany - Complete in 1952 by the artist Max Lingner, the mural depicts the ideals of the GDR - foreman shaking hands with labourers, young people marching with GDR flags, and women labouring on the farm. In June 1953 a strike by construction workers led to a widespread uprising. Days later Soviet troops were called in to supress the revolt. Today a photograph of the protests exactly the proportions of the mural is on display on the ground into front of the mural.
