The Iraqi army announced the liberation of the entire East-Mosul on Jan. 18, three months after the beginning of the offensive. Iraq's armed forces launched the offensive to retake Mosul in October and are still fighting to retake western Mosul, on the other bank of the Tigris River. The fighting has seen thousands of Iraqs flee, with the country?s immigration minister Jassim Mohammed recently reporting that some 355,000 people have been displaced. Many end up at already overcrowded refugee camps such as Al-Alil to the south of Mosul. Others head to the shattered eastern side of the city. Here, while ISIS, who took over the city in June 2014, may have been driven out the scars and damage left in their wake is still painfully visible. As residents slowly return to their homes they face a large hard battle just to survive let alone rebuild and return to a semblance of normal life.

Premier League International Good Causes Launch, London, Britain - 09 Oct 2008
Mohammed Bin Hamman joined British Council Chair Lord Kinnock and other British government ministers to launch the international Good Causes programme which aims to see the Premier League take projects to a number of developing nations in Asia and Africa. Bin Hamman hopes to help the football confederation identify the right locations and communities to benefit from these projects. The 60-year-old from Qatar has been the President of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) since being first voted in just after the 2002 World Cup. He recently warned FIFA President Sepp Blatter that he could lose touch with the modern game if the Swiss football supreme stays in his job for too long. Blatter has been in charge of the international game's governing body for the last ten years. Many are talking up Bin Hamman's chances of being Blatter's successor, having overseen the creation of the Asian Champion's League and the inclusion of Australia in this new competition.
