Tough Turkey Terrifies Young Deer
This inquisitive young deer was given the shock of its life when it got too close to a wild turkey.
The curious fawn had ventured over to the bird in an attempt at friendship but was given short shrift.
After the unlikely pair stood sizing one another up just inches from each other the turkey decided the youngster was too close and suddenly flew into the air to scare him off.
The bashful white-tail deer went back to its mum where it was given a reassuring lick.
The encounter was captured near a farm by amateur photographer Angel Cher.
The 45-year-old mum said: "It was at about dusk and I had been waiting by the farm to capture the perfect photo of the local wildlife.
"The wild turkey was already looking near the horse paddocks for food when I saw a few white-tail deer coming out of the woods, three bucks and two does.
"I have seen them before and had hoped to capture them on camera. I sat quietly as they nibbled at the grass and the fawn decided to try to go back near the pine trees near the turkey.
"The turkey did not want it near but the fawn was insistent. I could see the deer had the hair on the back of its neck sticking up and suddenly the turkey flew at him as a warning.
"The fawn ran off into the pines scared of his new 'friend'. They co-exist together fine, the encounter was interesting to say the least."
