    Britain's Royal Mint, the original maker of UK coinage has produced a ten-kilo gold commemorative coin , the largest ever in its 1,100-year history. The coin celebrates Queen Elizabeth II’s coronation in 1953.It has already been snapped up by a collector who paid a six figure sum for it, purported to be as much as £700,000 GBP / €806.570 eurosThe mint would not confirm the price.The coin had a nominal face value worth of £10,000 GBP / €11.520 eurosIt is the latest Masterwork – a new series of larger, one of a kind pieces for collectors made using a combination of traditional skills and innovative technology. The giant coin is from a series began in 2017 called The Queen’s Beasts.It takes its inspiration from ten stone statues of various animals , some mythical, which lined the Queen’s coronation route to Westminster Abbey.They consist of two lions, a griffin, falcon, bull, a yale which is a mythical horned beast, greyhound, dragon, unicorn and horse.On the giant coin they surround an effigy of the monarch.The coin captures all ten beasts side by side in a single design. The coin was created by a team of master craftspeople using traditional minting skills alongside innovative technology.Modern techniques were called upon in the beginning with engraving machines being used to carefully cut the design onto the coin.
