    Mha Puja Festival In Nepal
Colorful mandaps are prepared for the Mha Puja festival, a ritual of self-worship celebrated by the Newar community in Kathmandu, Nepal, on October 22, 2025. Mha Puja, observed on the fourth day of the Tihar festival and the New Year according to the Nepal Sambat calendar, is performed to purify and empower the self, seeking prosperity, longevity, and spiritual well-being. During the ritual, each family member sits before an intricately made mandap -- a sacred design created on the floor using lentils, rice flour, flowers, and oil lamps -- symbolizing the soul and inner energy of the individual. PET LOVING JAPANESE PRAY FOR ANIMAL GOOD HEALTH

Celebrating the New Year in Japan means paying special attention to the "first" time something is done in the new year.

For example, Hatsuhinode is the first sunrise of the year, while hatsu-uri is the first shopping sale of the new year.

One of the most important 'firsts' is Hatsumode, which is the first trip to a shrine or temple.

For people this event normally takes place after midnight on December 31 or sometime during the day on January 1.

But the animal loving Japanese would never leave their pets out of the New Year good fortune.

So, one of the other important New Year firsts is a visit to a shrine with their beloved pet in order to pray for the animal's good health in the coming year.

In Tokyo this type of ceremony is held at Ichigaya Kamegaoka Hachimangu shrine; here, as part of the ceremony, pets and their owners step through a large straw rope circle.

Stepping through this sacred circle helps to purify both body and soul, and a priest of the shrine also prays for good health and fortune for the animal.
