REPORTAGE - Impressionen aus der Geisterstadt Pripyat nach der Tschernobyl-Katastrophe
Eindrücke aus der verlassenen Stadt Prypjat nahe Tschernobyl / 260313 *** Impressions of the abandoned city of Pripyat near Chernobyl, Ukraine, March 26, 2013 ***
General view of Oldbury nuclear power station
/ 290212
[The world?s oldest operating nuclear power station will be closed down today, bringing its 44 years of atomic generation to an end. Staff at the Oldbury plant, near Thornbury, South Gloucestershire, will take the site?s only reactor to have been in use recently off-line for the final time. Reactor one had remained generating when reactor two was closed last summer, using the last available remaining fuel, which is no longer made. Operators Magnox had hoped to be able to keep reactor one going until the end of this year after industry regulators gave their permission for that to happen.] (FOTO: DUKAS/ACTIONPRESS)

[Scientists were today investigating a bizarre white cobweb found on nuclear waste amid fears that it could be a 'spider mutant'. Workers at the U.S. Department of Energy's Savannah River Site in South Carolina discovered the freakish growth on uranium last month. The 'white, stringlike' material - never seen before on nuclear waster - was found among thousands of spent fuel assemblies submerged in deep pools within the site?s L Area. Experts from Savannah River National Laboratory collected a small sample of the mystery lint to run test and see if it was alive.] (FOTO: DUKAS/ACTIONPRESS)
