    Here, on 15 August 1969 violence erupted along the Falls/Shankill interface in Belfast. Almost all of the houses on Bombay street were burned by the loyalists, the most extensive destruction of property during the riots. A loyalist sniper here shot dead Gerald McAuley (15), a member of the Fianna (IRA's youth wing), as he helped people flee their homes on Bombay Street.

    Loyalists have been protesting across Northern Ireland after Belfast City Council restricted the number of days the Union Flag can fly over Belfast City Hall.
    There have been 39 days of protests over Belfast City Council's decision to fly the flag on designated days only.
