On that morning, upon the missiles alarm, Yair and his wife Shlomit entered the safe room with their four children. Shortly after, Yair was called up to fight with the emergency squad. He fought in fierce battles with his comrades, and hit many terrorists who tried to infiltrate. The Battle of Kerem Shalom took place on October 7, 2023, as part of the October 7 massacre, during which dozens of terrorists from the Hamas terrorist organization stormed the Kerem Shalom kibbutz and outpost. The kibbutz's alert squad, reinforced by soldiers from the Nahal Brigade, engaged the terrorists in battle and succeeded in stopping them from carrying out a massacre in the kibbutz.
