MAN WITH ENDEMIC COCO-DE- MER, LARGEST AND HEAVIEST SEED, IN THE PLANT KINGDOM, VALLEE DU MAI, PRASLIN ISLAND, SEYCHELLES
Coco de Mer, just harvested and peeled. The Coco de Mer is the largest seed, the largest nut in the plant kingdom. The tree is only growing on two SeychellesÕ island: Praslin and Curieuse. The fruit can weight up to 30 kg. The leafes, also the largest, can be 14 m long and 5 m wide.
Called the ÒMirum miraculorum naturaeÓ, also called the miracle of miracles of nature. The scientific name is ÒLodoicea MaldivicaÓ. The first nuts have been flowing to the Maldive Islands and it was believed the nut is growing underwater in the sea on a special tree. So the common name was ÒCoco de MerÓ, Coco of the sea.
The famous British general Gordon wrote: Òthe Coco de Mer palm is the tree of knowledge and Praslin the garden of Eden.Ó
The yearly production is limited. The government is controlling the nuts. Each nut on sale needs an numbered pass and an export license and may cost up to USD 1000. Today the name ÒCoco de MerÓ is misused for anything special, unique, mainly in the tourism industry. From hotel names to soap to wellness.

COPRA PRODUCTION, NIAFO OU ISLAND, TONGA, POLYNESIA
Copra is the dried kernel of the coconut, from which coconut oil is extracted. In the coconut palm plantations, the extraction of oil from copra takes place in several stages. First the coconuts are peeled and split. The split halves of the coconut shells are then heated for about 24 hours in an oven or hot-room, in order to remove the moistness from the flesh of the kernels. After cooling, the flesh, now called copra, can be easily separated from the shells. The copra so obtained is then pressed in an oil-mill or further processed into dessicated coconut flakes. A Chinese boy's middle finger was tightly trapped by a screw nut which was only taken off 16 hours later. The 2-year-old boy, of Tianshui, northwestern China's Shaanxi province, put the screw nut on his right middle finger at 8pm on June 9th, and couldn't take it off after visiting different hospitals. The next morning, 14 hours after the incident, the mother, Mrs. Li, had to call the local fire fighting office for help. Considering the potential danger of using electric cutting machinery on the boy, fire fighters inserted a screw driver in between the nut and the finger and sawed through the top of the nut with human force. Mother Li is checking her son's finger.

The next morning, 14 hours after the incident, the mother, Mrs. Li, had to call the local firefighters for help.
"When we arrived, the boy's finger had turned purple in color. If the nut had not been taken off immediately, the boy's finger may have had to be amputated," said a spokesman of the office.

During the cutting, fire fighters used every means to divert the attention of the crying baby, like making weird faces, letting him play with toys, and singing kids' songs.
It took 2 hours for the fire fighters to saw through the tight nut.

The 2-year-old boy, of Tianshui, northwestern China's Shaanxi province, put the nut on his right middle finger one evening and couldn't get it off again, even after visiting several different hospitals.
Considering the potential danger of using electric cutting machinery on the boy, firefighters inserted a screw driver in between the nut and the finger and sawed through the top of the nut by hand.
During the cutting, fire fighters used every means to divert the attention of the crying baby, like making weird faces, letting him play with toys, and singing kids' songs.
It took 2 hours for the fire fighters to saw through the tight nut.

The overweight squirrel
Overweight squirrel at Morro Rock State Preserve, California, America - 09 Jun 2011
Rather than be embarrassed by her weight this tubby squirrel seems almost proud as she poses for a photograph. The enormous grey squirrel has ballooned to twice its size after being repeatedly fed nuts by tourists visting the park where she lives. Photographer Marina van der Linden captured the chubby creature on film in the Morro Rock State Preserve in California. Software engineer Marina, 46, was stunned when the obese California ground squirrel appeared after she pulled out a bag of nuts. She said: "I had been in the park taking photos but couldn't get any clear pictures because it was so foggy. "I got out a bag of peanuts and suddenly I saw a family of squirrels. It was hilarious because they were all quite big, but there was one that was enormous". Full story: http://www.rexfeatures.com/nanolink/bs3g

Public Sector workers strike against Pension Cuts. Cambridge, England. 30 November 2011.
Striking public sector workers meet on Parkers Piece in the University City of Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England. Public sector workers around the UK are staging a strike over pensions in what unions say could be the biggest walkout for a generation. Thousands of schools are closed and hospital operations have been cancelled. Courts and government offices are among disrupted services. David Cameron described the strike as a "damp squib". Unions object to government plans to make their members pay more and work longer to earn their pensions.

Squirrel attempts to eat hanging peanut kebab, Fareham, Hampshire, Britain - Dec 2012

Acrobatic Squirrel Munches On Peanut 'Kebab'
Just how many ways are there to eat a kebab? Well, if you're this crafty squirrel the answer is 'many'.
The acrobatic creature went to extreme lengths to gets its paws on some tasty peanuts when he spotted them hanging in a garden in Fareham, Hampshire.
In fact, the persistent grey squirrel was determined not to give up until it had stolen every single treat from the suspended nut 'kebab'.
His dexterity meant it was a case of squirrel 1, homeowner 0.
According to Sue Bellamy, every time she put peanuts out for the birds they were consistently stolen by squirrels.
She says: "As soon as I put the nuts out on the table they where gone. The squirrels just picked them up and off they went.
"Then my husband came up with the kebab idea so I threaded the peanuts onto an old knitting needle and hung them".
However, as Sue is first to admit, her idea hasn't quite worked, with the determined squirrels patiently working out how to get their prize.
She adds: "The squirrels now take ages to work out the best way to eat the kebab".

Squirrels Go Nuts Over Unusual Smoothie
This cheeky creature is simply nuts about his unusual smoothie.
The peckish grey squirrel seemed overjoyed when he managed to get his paws on the peanut flavoured drink.
Allison Carrick from Stubbington in Hampshire came up with the idea of the nutty treat after getting a smoothie maker for her birthday.
Now, she says, the squirrels that visit her garden love the smoothie and have even learnt to drink it through a straw.
Alison said: "When I first offered them the drink they just lapped it up from a dish but then I put out a sundae glass and a straw to see what they would do.
"To my amazement before long they were sucking away to their hearts content.
"Its great fun to watch them and it keeps them off the bird table".

Get off my nuts!
