A solar-powered model toad is leading the fight against dengue fever.

The mosquitos that carry the deadly infection lay their eggs on stagnant water found in barrels or water tans.

The device has paddle wheels on either side of its body.

These constantly churn the water surface transforming the mosquito’s favoured habitat into a hostile place for it to lay its eggs,

It has proved 92 percent effective since being tested in the field.

Called the Guardian Toad, the life-sized plastic model was commissioned by Peru insecticide brand Sapolio which has the amphibian as its mascot.

It is self-sustainable, powered by a solar cell so that the movement of the blades and water can be continuous, allowing it to operate autonomously.

It comes as the South American country is said to be facing one of the worst dengue outbreaks

Harry Potter fans can now get a magical Lego set — recreating the talking Hogwarts School Sorting Hat.

The hat was used in the JK Rowling books and films about the boy wizard to select pupils for the four school houses.

Harry famously uses his powers to convince the hat he should go into Gryffindor, not Slytherin where nemesis Lord Voldemort had studied when a boy.

And the 561 piece Lego set even talks.

It has a hidden randomised sound box that utters 31 different phrases to magically assign fans who put the hat in their head to one of the four Hogwarts houses.

It’s also the first Lego Harry Potter kit to incorporate a sound brick.

Electric car company Teslas has unveiled a child sized version of its new angular Cybertruck.

The $1,500 USD / €13.690 euros Cybertruck for kids has already sold out its first run with deliveries being made this week.

Disappointed would be buyers can register for a new production run.

It is electric, just like the $61,000 USD / €65.656 euros base model.

The ride-on toy version features an adjustable seat, rear-wheel drive and electric braking and LED headlights and tail lights.

It is powered by a lithium-ion battery with up to 12 miles / 19 km range and a 500w motor with a top speed of 10 mph / 16 km/h

A spokesperson said: “The Cybertruck for kids seats two comfortably, and is suitable for drivers aged six to 12 years old.”

The full sized Cybertruck went on sale in November.

A top of the range four wheel drive version of the proper vehicle is around $100,000 USD / €91.240 euros.
