An Indian policeman aims his pellet gun towards Kashmiri protesters ( not pictured) during clashes in Srinagar, Indian administered Kashmir. A large number of protesters took part in a rally in Srinagar, the largest city of the disputed Himalayan valley, following Friday prayers, and demanded an end to the Israeli occupation of Palestinian land. The mass rally turned violent after police fired teargas, pellets and rubber bullets to disperse the protesters in Srinagar. The angry demonstrators chanted pro-Palestinian slogans and anti-Indian slogans. They also urged international community to take serious steps to halt the Israeli aggressive policies and its expansionist agenda. Nearly, 60 Palestinians were killed by live gunfire and over 1,359 were wounded last week in the ongoing Israel military operations in the Gaza Strip.

    Cricket Fight Club
A blood sport unique to China is enjoying something of a resurgence in popularity - cricket fighting.

This popular pastime dates back more than 1,000 years to the Tang Dynasty when it was first played by rich men.

However, it quickly became popular amongst commoners due to the gambling element.

During the Cultural Revolution (1966-1976) the practice was banned by the Communist government as it was considered to 'bourgeois'.

But once again the sport is now growing in popularity - particularly with the new generation.

While it is illegal in China to gamble, cricket fights themselves are legal and occur in most large cities.

In addition, each year a six-day national cricket-fighting competition draws hundreds of fans and combative insects to Chongming Island off the coast of Shanghai.

While some prefer to catch their own fighters, specialised crickets sellers in markets across the country - such as the Shanghai Bird, Flower and Insect market - conduct a brisk trade.

In 2010 more than 400 million yuan (US$63 million) was spent in China on crickets.

Just like race horses, crickets have pedigrees and some insects bred by knowledgeable keepers are in high demand.

The best fighters also exchange hands for high sums of money despite the fact they only have a short six month life span.

Each cricket must be kept in its own clay pot and their diets include ground shrimp, red beans, goat liver, and maggots.

Fighting is a natural occurrence between two males competing for territory.

Before a professional fighting bout, the insects are weighed and then matched up according to size, weight, and color

Owners 'encourage' their crickets to fight by stroking them with straw sticks to draw out their jaws.

Both combatants are then placed in a small fighting arena to battle...

    Elephant Society is 'Still Disrupted'
African elephants' decision-making abilities are left impaired by culling operations that ended decades ago, University of Sussex research suggests.

A study found that elephant herds that lost adults to culls during the 1970s and 1980s were less able to respond appropriately to other elephant calls.

Lead researcher Prof Karen McComb said the animals' "social understanding" had been impaired by the loss of adults.

The results are published in the journal Frontiers in Zoology. (FOTO: DUKAS/LFI/Photoshot)

Mr Asbo the anti-social swan, Frightened rowers have made a desperate appeal to the Queen for the removal of an evil swan dubbed 'Mr Asbo', who has been repeatedly attacking river users.
The vicious bird has returned with a vengeance to the normally peaceful River Cam in Cambridge following his reign of terror last year.
The bad-tempered bird attacks any boat which gets too near and has already left dozens of rowers with cuts and bruises.
Last year Cambridgeshire Rowing Association and Cam Conservators sent an email warning rowers to keep their distance from the fully-grown male.
But this year the feathered fiend has moved further into the city and become even more aggressive, chasing after motor boats as well as canoes.
The bird, who has even been known to capsize rowers, is believed to be protecting his partner and nearby nest.
Now Bill Key, president of the Cambridgeshire Rowing Association, wants the Cam Conservators to remove the swan.
