Dudley Zoo has been showing off the first snow leopard born at the West Midlands attraction in 12 years.

The Eight-week-old cub has been delighting visitors with its playful antics in the internal den with mother Nanga

Since its birth on 2nd May the tiny mammal has been staying close to four-year-old Nanga, a first-time mum, but has ventured out by the glass viewing panel affording visitors a quick glimpse.

Assistant Curator Richard Brown said staff were delighted with the cub's progress.

He said: "Nanga is a fist time mum and has been coping brilliantly. We don't know the baby's sex as yet, but it's a lively little thing and very playful." Its father is three-year-old Margaash.

Sumatran tiger Daseep couldn't resist playing snowball with keepers at Dudley Zoological Gardens.

DZG Head of Media and Communications, Jill HItchman, said despite the species originating from the tropical rainforests of an Indonesian island, the two year-old tigress adored the recent snowfalls.

She said: "This is the first heavy snow Daseep has seen and keepers thought she would stay cosy in her heated den, but she couldn't wait to explore.

"Keepers built her a snowman which she demolished in minutes then spent yesterday afternoon throwing snowballs which she absolutely loved catching with her paws."

Meerkat triplets make their debut, Dudley Zoo, Dudley, Britain - 28 Aug 2012
Mums's the word for this tiny twosome after a child's dummy dropped into the meerkat enclosure at Dudley Zoo was quickly picked up by their mother and brought over to the young pups.

Three tiny new arrivals have been spotted out and about exploring their surroundings, after opening their eyes for the first time this week.

The triplets were born in one of the underground burrows around three weeks ago and made their public debut in recent days to join the eight-strong mob of adults.

A meerkat is born undeveloped unable to open its eyes or ears for around two weeks and youngsters stay close to the burrows, usually with an adult meerkat who has been chosen as the babysitter of the pack.

Keepers will have to wait until the babies are eight weeks old until they are able to find out what sex they are.

Ungulates team leader, Jay Haywood, said: "The babies are very cute and are always a hit with visitors with their antics."

    Meerkat triplets make their debut

Light-fingered Lemur Beats The Rain With Umbrella
Rain didn't stop play for this cheeky black-and-white-ruffed lemur at Dudley Zoological Gardens (DZG) on Thursday (21 June).

The savvy small primate grabbed an umbrella from a visitor to the site's Lemur Wood - home to more than 30 free-roaming lemurs - and set off for a wander around the one-acre paddock at the Midlands' leading tourist attraction.

DZG Head of Media and Communications, Jill Hitchman, said: "Lemurs love to play out in the trees and meadows, but this week's torrential downpours have put a dampener on their antics.

"However, yesterday one of the black-and-white-ruffeds spied an opportunity for fun, grabbed an umbrella from a visitor and made a dash for it.

"He carried it around for a while but abandoned the brolly when a gust of wind almost blew him over."

Bornean orangutan Sprout's first birthday, Dudley Zoological Gardens, West Midlands, Britain - 30 Mar 2012
Dudley Zoo staff celebrated the first birthday of Bornean orangutan Sprout on thursday (29 March).

The cheeky primate celebrated by playing in her enclosure and having cuddles from her mother Jazz.

Team Leader Upper Primates, Pat Stevens, said:"Sprout is one year old today and we just can't believe where all that time has gone. She is developing well, is right on target with her milestones, and is having fun exploring, much like a human infant."

In recent weeks Sprout has become more independent and spends time walking around and playing by herself, but will remain dependent on 20-year-old Jazz, until she is at least six years of age.

Pat added: "We have put up some new webbing for Sprout to climb on, and she is now practising swinging across it. It's a real pleasure watching her grow and develop." Asia's only great ape, the Bornean orangutan is highly endangered and originates from areas of tropical and sub-tropical forest.

Three male Saki monkeys at Dudley Zoological Gardens have been trained to hop on to the weighing scales once a month as part of their regular health checks. The weigh-ins enable keepers to spot evidence of monkey tricks at mealtimes when Obi Wan, Deju and Rio receive their daily rations. Curator Matt Lewis explained: (FOTO:DUKAS/REX)

    Who need Wayne Rooney?

Dudley Zoo keepers discovered 11-month-old micro pig Harley's soccer skills after a tip off from his former owners.

Now he has been given a special enrichment ball to play with, which rewards him with tasty treats.

DZG Curator Matt Lewis, said: "Harley's owners were out at work and he was lonely so they donated him to us. When he arrived he had a leather football which wasn't ideal as such balls are treated with chemicals.

"However, we have now given him an enrichment ball which is a safe way to keep him occupied and rewards him with treats and interesting smells.

"He really enjoys playing with the ball, and heads it with his nose and sometimes tries to kick it, too."
