Fox cub rescued after getting head stuck in a watering can, Leatherhead, Surrey, Britain - 6 May 2010
Mandatory Credit: Photo by Andy Newbold/Solent News / Rex Features ( 1206440b )
Water Tricky Situation To Get Into!
This little fox cub got more than he bargained for when he investigated a garden watering can - and got his head stuck fast.
The four-week-old cub was exploring a family garden in Surrey when it decided to take a peak into the small metal can.
However, it soon discovered that putting its head in was a lot easier than getting it back out again.
As it realised it was stuck the distressed cub began running around the garden, bumping into objects and crying out.
The family who owned the garden, in West Horsley, near Leatherhead, heard the fox's whimpers and went to investigate.
They found the terrified creature near to their shed and unsuccessfully tried to free him.
However, when their attempts failed they took the tiny cub, which has been called Jacob, to their local animal rescue centre.
Here Simon Cowell, the owner of the centre, 58, spent 20 minutes trying to free it from the can.
Eventually he managed to carefully pry the cub's head lose and free the very relieved youngster.
Mr Cowell said: "Animals get into the most absurd situations and at this time of year there are a few orphans walking about who get in a bit of trouble.
"We had to move quite quickly when he was brought in because if he had been in there much longer he would have died.
"Jacob was obviously quite distressed but I've done this kind of thing quite a bit and we calmed him down.
"I very gently and slowly slid his head out. When he came out he was absolutely fine, the metal hadn't cut into him and he was just salivating a bit because he was very hungry".

Jumpers for chickens, Blisworth, Northampton, Britain - Jan 2009
Chicken rescuer Jane Percival knew just what to do to stop her chicks becoming too cool in a cold spell... home made jumpers.
Jane, 69, enlisted the help of the local Women's Institute members and their knitting skills to help protect the ex battery farm chickens, fearing they didn't have enough feathers to cope with sub zero temperatures
Jane, 69, from Blisworth, Northants, said: "We knew they wouldn't have enough feathers for the cold.
"So I searched the internet and found a pattern. The ladies from the local WI got knitting and now we have eight or nine jumpers."
Jane added: "It's made the chickens so happy that they even laid eggs."

AWARDS FOR BRAVERY AFTER PIT EXPLOSION
8 February 1950
Awards for bravery have been made to William Seth Parr, 33 and Herbert Evitts, 46 members of the rescue corps at Lyme Colliery, Boothstown, Lancashire. Parr received the George Medal and Evitts the British Empire Medal (Civil Divisions) for rescue efforts after the leader of their team had collapsed during investigations following a fire and explosion in the pit. Parr, having sent three companions to fetch help, remained with the unconscious man although he was in danger from lack of oxygen. When one of the second party collapsed Evitts stayed to revive him.
