SHOP WINDOW FULL (OF LION CUBS) - but they're rationed
31 January 1950
Britons who are becoming accustomed to full shop windows after years of war scarcity today (Tuesday) stopped and took a second look at a unique window display in Regent Street, London. the window: that of the Sabena Belgian Airlines. And the display of five lion cubs, flown to Britain from Johannesburg, South Africa for zoo and circus use.
But though the spectators were intersted, few wanted to 'buy'. Lion cubs can be big meat-eaters.

Lock's - The Hat Shop
There are exclusive shops in most of the world's great cities , but in few cities are the most exclusive quite like those of London . It would be almost true to say that the more exclusive a London shop , the less impressive it is from outside . Many of them , particularly those around St . James's - '' Club Land '' - in the West End , look more like well - preserved pawn - brokers ' establishments in dock area . One such is Lock's the Hatter's . From the street , the shop looks like a relic , slowly design from lack of custom . There is no bustle , no neon, and certainly there's never a queue ; yet it is to Lock's that the Duke of Windsor , the Duke of Edinburgh , the Duke of Norfolk , Sir Anthony Eden , and most of the names from Debrett come for their headgear .

St Valentines Day .
St . Valentine's Day is with us all once more . Secret loves will find expression in flowery , colourful but anonymous cards . Bunches of flowers will be delivered to many pretty miss's home - with mysterious cards attached . Others , more bold will willingly sign their names , proud and sure of their reception . Still others ( the very brave ) will arrive , flowers in hand , at the sweet - heart's door .
Such a brave one is Johnny - or as he is more familiarly known in his neighbourhood '' The Beau Brummell of the Buildings " . Not for him the hidden love , the unspoken affection , the unrequited passion . He has always kept pretty Rosie in his sights . ( Not that his eye doesn't wander , and the '' one man one girl '' path is a difficult route ) . But comes St . Valentine's and like the good , true suitor he is he makes straight for Rosie , Erring slightly on the way .- but nevertheless he reaches his objective , with flowers firmly grasped in one grubby hand .
Picture shows - Flowers purchased and on the way to see his valentine but not not before a quick glimpse of the pretty mannequin in a shop window .
