Cocaine found in White House disposed by Secret Service
July 2, 2023 - Washington, DC, United States: On August 5, 2024, the Secret Service said it “disposed of” cocaine found last year at the White House, in a locker outside the Oval Office, responding to a report about alleged infighting on its fate following a partial DNA match. The Secret Service did not state the specific retention policy, but broadly dismissed as “false” allegations outlined by a trio of sources, which reported that President Biden’s then-Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle wanted to destroy the cocaine but faced internal opposition. Her request was rebuffed by subordinates who cited protocols requiring that the evidence be retained for seven years. Sources connected to the Secret Service said that DNA had been recovered from the half-used dime bag, allowing for a “partial hit” in a national database after the drug was found on July 2, 2023 — two days after a gathering of the Biden family. NBA legend Kobe Bryant locker could fetch $1.5 million
The changing room locker used for 15 years by late US basketball legend Kobe Bryant is going up for sale — and could fetch $1.5 million USD / €1.38 million euros.
The former Los Angeles Laker NBA superstar died aged 41 in a plane crash in January 2020.
He used the locker, which still bears his name card, up until the 2015-16 season - his final year in the NBA.
It is being auctioned by Sotheby's in the USA after it was acquired by an unnamed American collector in a private transaction.
A spokesperson said the wooden locker had previously been in storage for years after being discovered at the Lakers home arena at the Staples Center during renovations in 2018.
The locker was going to be thrown out but was saved by a vigilant maintenance worker.
Bryant is considered a Lakers and NBA legend, after a career with five championships, 15 All-NBA selections and one Most Valuable Player win.
The Staples Center, now known as Crypto.com Arena, was home to an 81-point game by Bryant in 2006, and a 60-point performance in his final game.
A portion of the proceeds from the sale of the locker will go to the Los Angeles Lakers Youth Foundation.
